Responsible for leading the Dreyfus Research Park site of 850
employees to achieve environmental, health and safety excellence,
manage staff of 32, coordinate fire brigade and EMT's, and a direct
budget of $2MM. Motivated and prepared the site to seek NC Star
recognition under the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program designed by
the government to recognize industry sites with safety and health
excellence. Successfully attained the Star status in 1995, becoming
the third HCC Star site and the sixth North Carolina Star site.
Developed and implemented a behavior safety observation process which
averages over 700 observations monthly and has yielded an OSHA
recordable incident rate of less than 0.5 for the past year. Managed
groundwater remediation project obtaining $340M of warranty repairs of
interim system covered by consultant. Maintained positive community
relations while addressing site groundwater issue that has resulted in
no negative publicity, some positive publicity, no law suits and
receipt of the Mecklenburg County Environmental Excellence Award for
large companies. Implemented reengineering design of EHS function
cutting department costs 25% while maintaining full compliance and no
interruption of department services provided. Coordinated ergonomic
program that included awareness training, assessment, intervention,
