PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
SHARETHIS, MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA
1/2010
PRESENTSr. Software Engineer
ShareThis is the largest market for sharing and influence across the web, reaching 400 million users on 850,000 sites. ShareThis makes content more engaging for publishers and marketing more impactful for brands by tapping into its true influence and value. Based in Mountain View, CA with offices in New York and Cincinnati, the company is privately held with funding from Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Blue Chip Venture Company, DFJ Mercury, Reservoir Partners, Illinois Ventures, Queen City Angels and RPM Ventures. Currently working on a set of initiatives and projects that will convert the few legacy systems into a fully self-healing and elastic network deployment that will allow ShareThis to adapt to demand while better optimizing monetary resources spent on the deployments.
At ShareThis, I designed, the server templates and AMI currently used in Operations to handle traffic upwards of more than 7000 requests per second and growing aggressively. I implemented the process that allows ShareThis to account in real-time each page view and share event using Python, Java and MongoDB among other technologies.
I implemented a web-server with a REST based API in Java to allow both internal and external users to consume real time counts in JSON format using Java and Jetty.
I designed, deployed and maintain an elastic bank of Log Servers that track every event that the current ecosystem generates via the ShareThis family of widgets.
Create, implement and maintain the current set of Server Templates using a variaty of languages including BASH, Perl, Ruby, Java, Python among others to allow the infrastructure to grow when demand rises and shrink to conserve resources.
I designed, deploy and maintain the monitoring and self healing company wide network using Nagios, custom scripts, snmp, collectd and monit among other technologies.

Advised executives with major company acquisitions after my examination and evaluation of the companies of interest. Re-designed the LB to increase performance, usability, and resource utilization. Engineered a stateful backend, refined Layer 4 Load Balancing, added support for Layer 7, passive FTP, and Microsoft Terminal Services. Designed, engineered and implemented a custom Global Server Load Balancing solution available in version 3.1 of the LB. Designed a logging system for statistical data collection from deployed LBs.
Lowered and maintained customer cases per thousand units to below 40.
Technology Innovation award from NetAdmin Magazine in January of 2008. The LB received this award after my architectural decisions, performance, and stability optimizations.
Migrated and automated the entire build and test environment with a combination of Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware ESXi and Citrix XenServer that took the build and automated-test process to a fully automated process.
