Dear Sirs

My attached resume summarizes my 37+ years of experience in fire services, including the last 20+ years of supervisory experience with both the City of Hampton Fire and Rescue, and the Air Force Reserve, as well as National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications for Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor III, Fire Inspector I/ II, and Fire Investigator, fulfilling the requirements for NFPA standards. I have a working knowledge of OSHA standards from teaching Health and Safety classes. I also have certifications in EMS and Hazardous Materials Operations all of which appear to meet the requirements for the position. Additionally since April 2011 I have worked as a Fire Prevention Specialist with ITT here in Afghanistan.

I also bring 21+ years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve as an Assistant Fire Chief of both Training and Operations, including training related to Homeland Security, specifically response and recovery in the event of terrorist attacks, as well as natural disasters. My education includes a bachelor's degree in Fire Sciences from the University of Southern Illinois at Carbondale; as well as 27 hours toward a master's degree in Public Administration Troy University and nine hours toward an MS degree in Fire Service Leadership, with emphasis in Disaster Preparedness Grand Canyon. My resume details my extensive list of certifications.

Please note that I also bring direct experience in conducting educational programs for students and others through my eight years as an adjunct faculty member in the Fire Sciences Department of Tidewater Community College. Among the subject areas I've taught are courses in fire prevention, fire protection systems and safety procedures, occupational safety and health, and dealing with hazardous materials. I have also provided training for NASA employees while assigned to Hampton Fire & Rescue Station 8 at NASA Langley Research Center. While assigned to Training Division I provide training to volunteer recruit classes. As a strong advocated for active community relations and education efforts, I have been able to build effective working relationships with both paid and volunteers as well as neighborhood departments and other state agencies, as well as various external constituencies.

I believe my specific background and experience would provide a positive contribution to ASRC Primus and Plum Island. I look forward to meeting with you to further discuss your needs, as well as expand on my qualifications for this position.

Sincerely,

Mark A. Hoeller
