First Financial Bank and the former Irwin Union Bank

Took over leadership of failing community bank and passed FDIC exam following the departure of the previous two market presidents.

Grew deposits by 14% and developed significant loan pipeline prior to First Financial Bank's decision to exit the Kalamazoo market in April 2011. Retained $20 Million dollar deposit relationship through Irwin Union Bank failure and transitioned relationship to First Financial Bank.

Conducted exhaustive portfolio review for appropriate loan structuring, grading and documentation. Managed $100 million dollar loan portfolio.

Coached and supported, directly and indirectly market employees covering retail, small business and middle market banking as well as focus on superior customer service to grow market share. Led staff back to an appreciation and sense of community through volunteerism.

Built loan pipeline of $6.5 million in 12 month time period. This activity occurred just prior to corporate strategic decision to exit Michigan market.

2000-2007: Deputy Director / CFO / Director of Development

Air Zoo (Kalamazoo Aviation History Museum)

As Deputy Executive Director and member of the senior management team, activities included: profit center management, strategic planning and marketing plan review and oversight; accounting department supervision; customer service training and staff development; Achieved 200%+ growth in customer base in 24 months.

Developed funding plan for $20,000,000 expansion project and oversaw all financial operations of $5 million dollar operating budget.

Key member of team to prepare and execute a successful $20,000,000 Capital Campaign to fund Air Zoo expansion. Funding sources included: Corporate in-kind gifts; grants and personal solicitations to high net worth individuals.

Made presentations and coordinated development efforts resulting in $3,260,000 in grants for Michigan Space and Science Center project.

Key member of Air Zoo senior management team and represented senior management at all board meetings.

Bank One and First of America Bank

Corporate banking experience included relationship management/business development, credit analysis and operations management. Managed $40 million dollar loan portfolio. Business development efforts resulted in $5-7 million dollar net loan growth.

During period of bank operations work, supervised 23 individuals working in seven different operating systems. Provided oversight for numerous system conversions.

1975-2005: Captain, U.S. Navy

Selected by national command selection board to serve as Commanding Officer of seven commands and to serve on five major staffs. Held Top Secret Security clearance. Recalled to active duty and deployed with the Commander, Tactical Destroyer Squadron 36. Assigned as Coordinator, Maritime Interception Force (a multi-national force) operating in the Red Sea during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Served on statutory promotion selection boards and Committee Chairman for two years on the Commander, Naval Reserve Force Policy Board.

Each of seven Commands received awards for Outstanding Mission Effectiveness. Credited with the establishment of the first Joint Reserve Unit for an overseas commander. This action received formal approval from the Vice-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. (Pentagon)

Served as Information Systems Department Head for two years for seven state regions for U.S. Navy.

Graduate of various military schools.

Led commands from 20 to 8,000 personnel as senior officer in U.S. Navy.

Awards: Defense Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3), Navy Commendation Medal (4) & other various campaign and personal medals and ribbons.
