Present
Co-founded new research consulting firm and co-developed its core
research agenda on employment and health issues. Helped build roster of
clients and collaborate in our forensic economic work producing reports
of economic loss in cases of wrongful workplace injuries and
death.
JFK Jr. Institute for Worker Education, CUNY, Director of Workforce
Research, 2002-2005
Developed a research agenda for the JFK Jr. Institute consistent with
mission statement. Hired, trained and supervised two research
assistants. Helped prepare several successful grant proposals including
a demonstration project for the Social Security Administration, and a
UHF grant to survey employers in the disabilities field. Designed and
implemented employer survey of health insurance benefits among
non-profit providers in the MRDD field. Authored two externally funded
reports regarding the academic performance of health care workers
attending CUNY, with a particular focus on areas of labor shortage such
as nursing and radiology. Prepared a brief on academic performance of
paraprofessionals attending CUNY for the Department of Education,
Chancellor's Office. Prepared an economic impact statement for
CUNY's Chancellor regarding CUNY's contribution to the NYC economy for
presentation to State Senators and Assemblymen. Used both CPS and NLSY
to study changes in rates of employer-provided health insurance
coverage among frontline health care workers in NY State and the U.S.
Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Assistant Research Professor, 2000-2002
Designed and implemented an independent health services research
agenda, supervised research of medical fellows, helped to design and
implement surveys for data collection on externally funded research
programs, provided capacity-building research support for grant writing
and program evaluation, helped to develop and implement a policy agenda
and work with key legislators to develop new legislation to help fund
adolescent health care services both in New York State and at the
national level. Authored several policy reports regarding
adolescent access to health care services submitted to New York State
Governor's Office and the New York State Department of Health.
Developed a Geographic Information Systems database in order to track
patient visits by community, and community demographic
characteristics.
Center for the Study of Labor and Democracy, Research Associate,
1998-Present
Collaborated on research projects, shared editing duties on Center's
journal, and helped plan conferences on labor issues, immigration and
pay equity. Designed and implemented several research studies for
local labor unions.

Introduced new core course on Health Economics. Regularly taught
courses on Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Economic Development.

Analyzed international demographic data and authored two reports for
U.N. statistical offices.

Researched and co-authored two chapters of Families in Focus, a book
concerning global demographic trends in family structure. Served
on two joint U.N./Population Council steering committees, the first
involving the development of policies to improve the global educational
prospects of girls, and the second, the formulation of strategies to
raise international awareness concerning the economic status of widows.

Helped to edit, update and revise the Fifth Edition of Prof. M.P.
Todaro's Economic Development in the Third World. Contributed
significantly to the writing of several sections of the text including
a chapter on Environmental Economics and Sustainability.
