Summary of key administrative and academic accomplishments:

I have worked with many outstanding colleagues in the College of Business and across

custom corporate MBA degree programs for Jostens and Pratt & Whitney.

Revenue generation: Increase in total funds flowing into the College from all

MBA programs from less than $10,000 in 1995 to more than $6 million in 2011-12.

unrestricted annual gift funds and scholarships with the MBA Advisory Board.

Worked with development officers to help cultivate scholarship donors and for

at Auburn. Serve on board of directors with Blue Ridge Conference on Leadership.

Improvement in MBA program rankings: Prior to 1995, no Auburn MBA program

had been recognized in the rankings. Our efforts since have produced these results:

MDs by Modern Healthcare in Spring 2012.

Supervisory and budget responsibilities as Associate Dean:

Guide efforts in strategic planning, new program development, and accreditation

coordination efforts for all of the MBA programs. I work with the Department

chairs to support the specialized master s degree programs as they require.

Generate and manage an annual budget of over $6 million in FY 2012-13, almost

entirely from program revenues; major spending categories include employee

salaries, faculty compensation, graduate student assistantships, and program

promotion plan development and execution.

Overall responsibilities for student recruiting, progression and placement issues

for more than 400 total MBA students in Fall 2012 across several programs,

including Full-time, Distance, Executive MBA and Physicians Executive MBA.

With the Masters in Real Estate Development, I play a coordinating role between

the College of Business and the College of Architecture, Design and

Construction, including managing budgets, faculty support, and advisory board

relations. The MRED program is administered by the MBA office.

I lead a full-time MBA Programs office staff of 7, with 3 additional part-time

professionals. There are also 2 faculty program directors that report to me; one

for the Physicians EMBA program and one for International exchange programs.

I am responsible for overseeing the Media Production Group; this unit includes

the ETV studio and produces a variety of creative material for us and the entire

University, including films, videos, web pages and content, and material for our

iPad foundation courses and for the EMBA, PEMBA, and MRED programs.

We coordinate the activities of the MBA Advisory Board; this has helped with

fundraising to support the MBA Programs (averaging several thousand dollars

annually) and strengthened links to alumni and the business community.

Responsible for selecting and reviewing faculty teaching in the Executive MBA

programs, including more than 25 faculty across 6 Departments. Responsible

for hiring external faculty when needed.

Share, with the Department heads, responsibility for selecting faculty to teach in

the full-time MBA core classes.

Responsible for oversight of all MBA international study trips; 3 trips annually

for all full-time MBAs, with faculty from all Business departments participating.

I have been the lead faculty member for EMBA international trips since 2005.

Coordinated with staff and external agents to put together study trips to China,

South Korea, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Italy, Ireland, and other destinations.

D. M. Gropper Page 4 September 1, 2012

Development of new academic degree programs and options:

Developing and delivering new programs is always a team effort; while leading our

MBA programs I have worked with many people to develop new options, including:

Creation and launch of an Executive MBA program in 1998

Creation and launch of a Physicians Executive MBA program in 1999

Launch of a Techno-Executive MBA program in 2000; closed and folded into

the regular Executive MBA program as a concentration in 2002.

Develop and deliver a custom MBA program for Jostens in 2002-2004

Develop and deliver a custom MBA for Pratt & Whitney in 2006-2008

Development of a joint MISE / MBA dual degree program with the Department

of Industrial and Systems Engineering, 2002.

Development of a joint MSIS / MBA dual degree program with the Department

of Management, 2007

Helped Management Department head develop a cooperative Healthcare MBA

with the Academy of Health Care Management, Prague, Czech Republic, 2009

Development of a joint MBA / MS in Finance dual degree program with the

Department of Finance, 2010.

Selected program management experiences and accomplishments:

I have been actively involved in business school associations, primarily GMAC and

the EMBA Council. I have organized and led sessions and been a panelist on a

variety of topics for the GMAC and the EMBA Council, focusing on new program

development, military MBA issues, and distance education. I have served on the

national meeting planning committee for the EMBA Council Annual meeting and

for the GMAC MBA Leadership meetings. Auburn University was invited to

become a member of the Graduate Management Admissions Council in 2007.

National recognition for MBA program involvement with local community: United

States Environmental Protection Agency: National Notable Achievement Team

Award, 2009. Visioning to Green: Revitalization in Valley, Alabama (D. Gropper

with 15 team members). This project focused on developing plans for textile mill

properties which the city had acquired; it was one of the projects where our MBA

students and faculty work with companies and organizations in our region.

Managed the design and rebuilding of one of our classrooms from a fixed, straight

row design into a semi-circular design suitable for case discussion for MBAs and

EMBAs. Total budget was just under $250K; paid for by program earnings.

D. M. Gropper Page 5 September 1, 2012

Led a major MBA curriculum revision in 1999, moving to a more integrated, team-

taught model; minor curriculum revisions have been made multiple times since.

I am responsible for deciding what technology we use in the programs, as well as

paying for it. We introduced iPads for use in our EMBA and PEMBA programs in

2010, with our own digital content for foundations courses and distance classes.

Earlier, we used video iPods, and prior to that CDs and DVDs. The content is

designed by our faculty and the Media Production Group.

Developed a leadership program for the MBA students with the Blue Ridge

Conference on Leadership; this has continued for more than 8 years as of Fall 2011.

Launch of the Distinguished Leaders in Government and Business lectures in 1998.

Brought such leaders as Senator Jeff Sessions, Governor Bob Riley, Lt. Governor

Lucy Baxley, Mayor Jan Dempsey, and State Representative Mike Hubbard into

classes in the College of Business.

Started an MBA Affiliates program in 1996 with the MBA Advisory Board that

built stronger ties to the business community. Businesses we worked with on this

initial effort included BellSouth, Briggs & Stratton, and many smaller firms. This

has evolved into an annual capstone projects class. In Fall 2012, more than 80

MBAs are working with local and national organizations on these projects.
