Dr. Jbeily has made over 200 presentations as a keynote speaker, guest speaker, panel discussion member, and main

presenter in topics related to excellence and equity in education, diversity in the teaching workforce, systemic reform in

education, developing leadership capacity at all levels of the educational system, science safety and facilities,

professional development, teacher empowerment, science education reform, alternative assessment, and building

partnerships.

As the Executive Director of the Texas Regional Collaboratives for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching,

Dr. Jbeily has procured over $116 Million in federal, state, and corporate funds to support the program s activities

across the state.

A SNAPSHOT

Kamil A. Jbeily is Founder and Executive Director of the Texas Regional Collaboratives for Excellence in Science Teaching at

The University of Texas at Austin, and a chemistry professor at Austin Community College. Dr. Jbeily graduated from The

University of Texas at Austin, with a Ph.D. in Science Education. Prior to that, he received a B.S. in chemistry and an M.S. in

Chemistry and Chemistry Education from the Lebanese University in Beirut, Lebanon.

Dr. Jbeily's thirty three years of state, national, and international experience in education include teaching high school chemistry

and English language, teaching college chemistry courses, supervising elementary and secondary student teachers, supervising

chemistry laboratories, researching the implementation of five-year teacher preparation programs, helping teachers at the in-

service and pre-service levels, and implementing regional collaboratives for excellence in science teaching.

Dr. Jbeily has taken the leadership role of bringing together the stakeholders of systemic reform in Texas. His current main focus

is to build the leadership capacity at all educational levels, and enable Texas science teachers to develop and adopt new

paradigms of science education. He has spearheaded the establishment of the Texas Regional Collaboratives for Excellence in

Science Teaching that design and implement ongoing support systems of professional development to empower science teachers

to lead systemic reform to achieve excellence and equity for all students. Science teachers, principals, counselors,

administrators, policy makers, colleges and universities, business and industry, parents and students themselves must work

together to bring about the reform needed for achieving excellence in science education. The energies, monies, and human

resources of all these entities will ensure that our schools will be transformed to enable ALL students, especially minorities and

women, to achieve the scientific literacy required for a highly scientific and technological twenty first century.
