Instructor Oct 2009 - June 2010 National Composite Center Kettering, OH I enjoyed this short term teaching position that was focused on retraining the displaced workers of the Miami Valley region in composite materials and processes. I was responsible for instructing the materials testing section of this program. Lectured students using a combined methodology consisting of Power Point presentations, field experience discussions, and round table student/instructor conversations Training continued in the testing lab where students were able to apply lecture concepts to conduct actual materials testing using servo-hydraulic test machines Quality procedures and concepts including six sigma were included in course lectures. The class culminated in a group activity where the students attached a variety of sensing elements to a full size composite bridge test panel and then proceeded to test the panel and collect data from the sensors
Test Engineer/Quality Manager June 1999 - Nov 2007 National Composite Center - I gained a great deal of composites experience and performed a multitude of roles in this position. In many cases I actually managed the manufacture of a product, and subsequently was responsible for the testing certification in the laboratory.
Quality lab manager Conducted testing of composite materials in compliance with ASTM, ISO, and other applicable standards and generated the reports that were final deliverables to the customer Reported data to customers and interpreted results using statistical analysis techniques. Designed, developed, and executed unique testing procedures of composite structures such as manhole covers, bridge decks, landing mats, composite springs, fire helmets, skateboards, rebar, drilling stators, armor, and many other composite components. Responsible for designing unique test fixtures to test the composite components using mechanical design techniques
Responsible for complex electronic instrumentation of test articles using strain gages, load cells, pressure transducers, thermocouples, LVDTS, and other devices to facilitate testing of unique composite structures
Experienced in the manufacturing of various composite structures using a variety of processes including filament winding, SRIM, resin injection molding, pultrusion, rapid fiber preforming, and managed technical teams preforming these operations
