WORK EXPERIENCE
March, 2006 Present Presently serve as a member of the President s
Cabinet at Albany State University.
March, 2006 - Present Interim Athletics Director where my duties and
responsibilities involve the administration of 11
sports, a budget of approximately 1.5 million
dollars, 18 coaches, 1 trainer, an Assistant
Athletic Director and Secretary. As Interim
Athletic I also serve on the Regional NCAA
championship selection committee for football
as the SIAC representative.
May 1999 - Present Chairman, Department of Psychology,
Sociology and Social Work at Albany State
University where my duties and responsibilities
include supervising ten faculty members and
one staff member, advising psychology,
sociology and social work students, counseling,
administering meetings, completing graduation
audits on all seniors, presenting workshops,
papers and seminars, teaching undergraduate
courses, serving on several committees and
conducting research for proposals for external
funding. I am also the Director of the Center
for The African-American Male where I provide
mentors for the Elementary and High School
students in Dougherty County. I am also
responsible for the solicitation of

grants/scholarships and marketing of the
Center activities. My responsibilities also
involve working with collaborative partners to
provide a comprehensive program throughout
a 24 county area. My duties further involve
working with ASU students to provide them
with leadership skills, academic skills, and
mentorship training. I also serve as the
Director of the Honors Program providing
guidance, instruction and day-to-day planning
for the Presidential Scholars, James Porter
Scholars, the Thurgood Marshall Scholars, the
Foundation Scholars and the Aaron Brown
Scholars.
March 1988-July 31, 1998 Worked as a Staff Psychologist for the
Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital at Rome,
Georgia. My duties and responsibilities
included conducting individual and group
therapy sessions weekly for a population of
male adolescents in a state hospital facility.
Also, I had the responsibility of performing
psychological and psychoeducational
evaluations on all new admissions and all
residents with admission dates over 12 months
old. I also conducted monthly meetings with
the direct care staff on positive techniques as
therapeutic intervention in a hospital setting.
Designed a sexual offenders= program for a
group of adolescents for sexual offenders and
sexual victims placed in the Adolescent
Specialty Treatment Program. The program
provided an assessment, treatment and follow-
up phase. I designed a Program Manual for the
Sexual Perpetrators Program. Also, I managed
the Continuous Quality Improvement
component for the Sexual Perpetrators
Program, and for Treatment Planning at
Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital at Rome.
I worked with adjudicated youth for
approximately 10 years.

September, 1995 -
July, 1997 Provided parenting classes for parents whose
children were incarcerated due to some crime,
burglary, probation violation, drug situation,
etc. The parenting classes were an avenue for
parents to strengthen their parenting skills
about their children, and how to handle the
demands of the teenage years. The parenting
classes provided the family with information on
clinical disorders most prevalent in infancy,
childhood and adolescents.
October, 1994 - July
1, 1998 Worked as a consultant to a wilderness camp
for adjudicated youth in Armuchee, Georgia. I
provided an initial assessment for all new
campers, and individual therapy sessions for
specialized cases which were usually substance
abuse as well as sexually related.
January, 1992 -
August, 1998 Worked as a professional consultant to the
Drug Elimination Program for the Rome
Housing Authority. My services involved
counseling parents to stay off drugs, and to
provide consistent care for the children. I also
counseled children and youth to encourage
them to stay drug free and to remain in school.
I counseled youth to complete the G.E.D.
program if they could not return to the
formalized learning setting.
March, 1993-August, 1995 Worked as a consultant to the Hays
Correctional Institution in the Counseling
Department. The focus of the program is to
provide psychoeducational groups for sex
offenders. I trained staff in providing training
in group therapy, conducting mental status
examinations and writing progress notes.
June, 1990-June, 1994 Formerly employed as a Mental Health

Evaluator for the Floyd County Mental Health
Center in Rome, Georgia. My duties involve the
evaluation of suicidal, homicidal, substance
abuse and mental health patients for
treatment, and referral to psychiatric and crisis
intervention care. MPS Consultants,

General Accounting Office of Organization and

Moreover, I devised a Management
Information System to handle client contact

August, 1985-August, 1986 Did an internship under the auspices of Dr.
Suzanne Randolph in the Department of
Pediatrics, and Child Development, Howard
University. My duties involved doing research
related to the Development of Black Children.
Furthermore, this internship was concluded at
the National Headquarters of the American Red
Cross. There as an intern I was a research
associate on the Black Elderly Caregivers
Project.
June, 1984-September,
1984 Did psychological testing for the Montgomery

county School System. The testing involved
the administration of the Wechsler Intelligence
Scale for Children-Revised and the Kaufman
Assessment Battery for Children to second
grade students.
August, 1983-May, 1986 Worked as a graduate assistant at the Sutton
Plaza Dormitory. This assistantship involved
the planning and implementation of programs
within the dormitory. The assistantship also
involves personal counseling with
undergraduate students ranging in
classifications from Freshman to Senior.

June, 1985 Did psychological testing for the Satellite
Program (Gifted Children) under the auspices
of Dr. James Williams, Howard University,

January 1983-May, 1983 Worked as a graduate assistant in the graduate
Reading Room, School of Education, Howard
University. This assistantship involved
checking out and checking out and checking in
materials for students and professors in the
School of Education.
December, 1980-
July, 1982 Worked as a consultant for nursing homes in
Montgomery, Bibb, Pulaski, Johnson and Jones
counties. This position involved annual
psychological testing on mentally retarded
patients residing in the nursing homes. The
position also involved individual and group
psychotherapy with patients. Furthermore, the
position involved doing in-service workshops
for staff members working in the nursing
homes.
August, 1980-
January, 1983 Worked as a Behavior Specialist for the
Community Mental Health Center of Middle
Georgia, Dublin, Georgia. The job involved

psychological assessment in terms of
intellectual ability as well as personality
related information. My duties also included
counseling children and adolescents in
Bleckley, Pulaski, Dodge, Laurens,
Montgomery, Wheeler, Telfair, and Wilcox
counties. Duties further involved the training
and teaching of counselors in the
administration, scoring, and interpretation of
intelligence and personality instruments.
June, 1980-August, 1980 Worked as a Resident Counselor for the
Department of Mental Retardation, Valdosta,
Georgia. The position was basically concerned
with training clients in basic self-help skills,
and supervising staff members.
February, 1980-June, 1980 Worked for the Migrants and Seasonal Farm
workers Association as a Professional Tutor.
My duties involved the tutoring of junior high
and high school student in the areas of
spelling, reading, vocabulary, mathematics,
social studies and English.

June, 1980 Worked as a graduate assistant for the
Department of Psychology at Valdosta State
College, Valdosta, Georgia. My duties were to
train the lab animals to perform certain tasks
for classroom demonstrations, monitor exams,
and lecture when necessary. My duties also
included tutoring freshman students in
Introductory Psychology classes.
March, 1980-June, 1980 Worked as practicum student at the
Department of Mental Retardation in Valdosta,
Georgia. The Practicum was done at a male
group home for mentally retarded clients.
Duties were to train the clients how to write
their names, answer the telephone, make
emergency telephone calls, dress themselves,
prepare meals, etc. During this time, I also

worked with Dr. Marcia Bauer in evaluating
HEAD START children in Lanier, Lowndes, and
Irwin counties.
September, 1979-
January, 1980 Worked as a practicum student in the Student
Development Center at Valdosta State College,
Valdosta, Georgia. Duties involved the
administration, scoring and interpretation of
interest tests to undergraduate students.
Duties further involved individual counseling to
students having problems about career
decisions and about choosing a college major.
Also during this quarter I helped devise and
served as co-leader of a communications skills
group.
March, 1980-June, 1980 Worked as a student assistant for Dr. Daniel J.
Kaeck in the Department of Psychology.
August, 1979 Valdosta State College, Valdosta, Georgia.
Duties were to prepare, administer and score
classroom examinations.

1978 Worked as a Longshoreman for the
International Longshoreman=s Association in
Savannah, Georgia. Duties included unloading
and loading of freight.
March, 1978-June, 1978 Worked as a Correctional Psychologist Intern
for the Macon Probation Office, Macon,
Georgia. This position was affiliated and
funded through the Governor=s Intern Program
in Atlanta, Georgia. My duties included jail,
and home visits, attending court, performing
case histories, and up-dating state and local
case loads of probationers.
June, 1977-September,
1977 Did a psychology internship at the
Comprehensive Mental Health Center (Open

Door) Savannah, Georgia. Duties were to keep
daily logs on each client. Duties also involved
writing progress notes and filling out Medicaid
cards on each client on a day-to-day basis.

and projects as well as participating in
recreational play with the clients, and
performing counseling.

December 1983 Did an internship at the North Community Mental
Health Center in the Child and Adolescent Outpatient
Unit, Washington, D.C. This internship involved
training in individual therapy with emphasis on
family therapy. Duties also involved interviewing,
case presentations and psychological testing.
Did a site visitation in the department of Vocational
Rehabilitation at the North community Health Center,
Washington, D.C. Duties were to report on the type
of intervention that goes on in such a setting and
present it during a class presentation. During this
semester I was also involved in a site visitation at
the Washington Halfway Home for Women. Here I
was involved in group counseling with women, as a
co-leader with my supervisor, Mrs. Karla Taylor-
Temple.

May, 1983 Did an observation of the children in the Child
Development Program at North Community Mental
Health Center, Washington, D.C. under the auspices
of Dr. Vallis. This observation was done to better
understand the development of preschool children.
July, 1981-
December, 1982 Trained under Dr. Henry Reymaker, licensed Clinical
Psychologist, in interviewing, psychological testing,
therapy, and mental health consulting.
September, 1982-
November, 1982 Participated in a seven week training course to
become certified in Alcohol and Drug. The training
program placed emphasis on the treatment of alcohol
and drug clients.
February, 1981 DSM III, Level I Training. This training orientated
mental health employees to the DSM III as a method
of enabling one to make accurate diagnosis of
clientele. This training session was held at the
Community Mental Health Center of Middle Georgia,
Dublin, Georgia.
November, 1980 Attended a workshop on learning disability and
clinical psychology--@A Merging of Two
Perspectives.@ This workshop was held at the
Georgia Mental Health Institute, Atlanta, Georgia.
The workshop emphasized the importance of being
able to adequately assess the learning disabled child
and look at the types of intervention that may prove
to be beneficial.
December, 1980 Attended a workshop on suicide prevention. The
workshop was held at the Georgia Mental Health
Institute, Atlanta, Georgia.
November, 1980 Attended a workshop on family therapy. The
workshop was held at the Georgia Mental Health

October, 1980 Day Treatment Training Program. This training

involved the familiarization of the Day Treatment
Program and the type of services that would be
rendered as well as the type of clientele to be served.
October, 1980 Attended a workshop on suicide prevention. This
workshop was the beginning of a two-part series
held at the Community Mental Health Center of
Middle Georgia, Dublin, Georgia
October, 1980 Orientation Programs. This was a workshop
designed to provide information concerning the
interworking of all the different programs that serve
under Mental Health and Mental Retardation. This
workshop was held at the Community Mental Health
Center of Middle Georgia, Dublin, Georgia.
September, 1980 Orientation--child and Adolescent Program. This
involved the familiarization of the services that the
program renders and how these services are carried
out daily in meeting the needs of the client. The
training lasted for approximately three weeks.
August, 1980 Attended a workshop on Quality Assurance. This
workshop familiarized staff members in the different
programs of mental health and mental retardation of
the necessary paper work that needed to be done on
the clients that the center served.
August, 1980 Attended a workshop on Confidentiality. This
workshop stressed the rights of clients, and our
responsibility to address such rights when delivering
services to a client population. This workshop was
held at the Community Mental Health Center of
Middle Georgia, Dublin, Georgia.
August, 1980 Trained under Dr. Marvin Long, Licensed Counseling
Psychologist in the Consultation and Education
Program. This training involved the administration,
scoring and interpretation of psychological tests on
preschool children in Laurens and Telfair counties
(Georgia).

August, 1980 Training in Mental Retardation. This training
involved working closely with mentally retarded
males in a group home setting. The clients were
taught basic self-help skills such as dressing
themselves, making beds, cooking, making
emergency telephone calls, shaving, grooming
procedures, etc. I was employed as the live-in
resident counselor. This position involved the
supervision of other staff member that worked on a
day to day basis with the clients.

August, 1980 Did additional training with Dr. Daniel J. Kaeck in

in Washington concerning education in this country and the impact on
African-Americans and minorities.
Met with members Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings, Assistant
Secretary of Education Dr. Henry Johnson and member s of the 100
Black Men of America of the 100 Black Men in September, 2006
discussing salient issues impacting African-Americans and minorities in
this country on such issues as standardized testing, Access to
Supplemental Education Services (SES), Placement of students in
Special Education, Qualified Teachers, etc. (Washington, D.C.).
Presented on a Panel with Dr. Cosby, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes, etc.
which was sponsored by The Kaiser Family Foundation, The
Washington Post and Harvard University, which has aired on C-Span
since July 2006 discussing the state of African-American males
