August 1, 2006 to April 19, 2011 - Southern Arizona Director of the Arizona Builders` Alliance (ABA), a non-profit trade association representing about 150 firms in the commercial construction industry in the Tucson area.

Accomplishments:
Member of the political campaign committee that successfully achieved voter approval in November 2006 for Proposition 400, creating a Joint Technological Education District (JTED) to reinvigorate vocational education in Pima County. Personally raised about $32,000 in contributions in support of the campaign.
Member of the political campaign committee that successfully defeated Proposition 200, an anti-growth initiative in Tucson that would have done great harm to Southern Arizona`s economy. Seventy-two percent of Tucson voters cast ballots against the proposition in November 2007. Personally raised about $40,000 in contributions to help defeat Prop. 200.
Instrumental in creating an Apprenticeship Training Ordinance that was approved by the Tucson City Council in 2007. Most of the provisions of the ordinance, which directs funding to local apprenticeship training programs, were later adopted administratively by Pima County.
Worked to create the ABA Learning Laboratory at Catalina Magnet High School and oversaw a tripling of both apprenticeship training classes offered and the number of students in ABA apprenticeship programs.
Served on a stakeholder group that in 2008 successfully recommended passage by the Tucson City Council of the nation`s first rainwater harvesting ordinance.
Integral member of a stakeholder group that met regularly over an eight-month period developing proposals to significantly reduce fees and streamline processes in the Pima County Development Services Department. The Pima County Board of Supervisors approved recommendations advanced by the stakeholder group in April 2011.
As ABA director, helped plan and execute five Volunteer Day charitable projects that resulted in approximately $685,000 in materials and labor being donated to such non-profit, charitable agencies as Tucson Nursery School, Marshall Home for Men, Compass Health Care, The Haven and New Beginnings for Women & Children.
As ABA director, coordinated fundraising campaigns over a five-year period that provided more than $120,000 for scholarship programs benefiting outstanding University of Arizona engineering and architecture students.
Boards & Committees:
Served on the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the JTED Board and as chairman of the JTED Construction Industry Subcommittee from 2007 to 2011. In those positions helped create and served as master of ceremonies of the annual JTED Construction Awards Banquet, honoring outstanding students in vocational education construction programs.
Member of the Board of Managers at the Northwest YMCA since 2008. Member of the Board of Directors of Cornerstone Alliance against Cancer since 2010. Formerly served as a member of the Good Scout Award Luncheon Steering Committee from 2007 to 2011, the Board of Directors at The Haven from 2007 to 2010, and the Board of Directors of the Arizona Press Club from 1990 through 1992.
