CREW LEADER -OFFICE OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR 2009 - 2010

Temporary position offered in Joliet Region to assist in creation of address database for the upcoming Decennial Census in 2010. Managed a crew of 13 to 23 by daily scheduling their work areas and charting their progress, as well as processing payroll and other personnel issues using correct paperwork and working through the proper authority channels. Initiated a daily reporting procedure to document problems which became a standard for other crew leaders. Finished the project on time in spite of having a very problematic district and 25 to 35% more addresses to canvass than the other districts in the region. With minimum experience, began to process new applicants, including fingerprinting and new-hire paperwork. Trained and assisted in training three new groups. Was promoted to Supervisor for the Decennial Census and managed crews of clerks processing the census form returns.

Hired to fill vacancy at Keta Sea Defense Project in Ghana, West Africa. Found that inventory control, documentation, and reporting all insufficient or lacking. Immediately performed physical counts to provide stock accuracy. Maintained this level until end of project, when the final count was 99.95% book-to-physical. Initiated communication with home office by email, including sending requisitions on line for more speedy and efficient acquisition of parts. Developed tracking systems to ensure rapid and complete receipt of orders. Developed monthly and weekly reports to home office hitherto unavailable and much appreciated and admired. Later, reconstructed tables from existing paper to create inventory and fuel reports for the two years prior to arrival, and ultimately created End of Project Reports with credible numbers. Demobilized entire Warehouse stock, valued at nearly $2M, in one month, including offshore shipment of most of the material.

Brought in to solve serious problems with inventory, primarily losses up to $70,000 each time inventory was counted, which turned out to be mostly due to poor accounting procedures. Developed new systems and immediately turned the problems around within four months. Simultaneously got inventory under control and devised systems to maintain an accurate book to physical. Helped the Accountant solve the frequent problems which had been occurring in the computer system by initializing a new version and transferring all the data to it. Changed the operating systems of the company which had led to the problems, thus eliminating the problems. Maximized the use of the computer system by using reporting systems and daily maintenance systems hitherto unused by other employees.

WAREHOUSE SUPERINTENDENT 1996 - 1999

Hired as Supervisor of vehicle spare parts stores. Quickly rose to Superintendent of all stores. Moved all stock, totaling 16 million dollars in value, to one new building and eliminated waste by getting rid of duplicate buying. Changed receiving from a general mine-wide method to a centralized warehouse operation for better cost analysis, tracking, and reporting. Converted a database consisting of 25,000 line items from a stand alone PC to a networked business system, and later assisted the transition to a different mine-wide linked computer system. Spearheaded and maintained return programs, often involving off-shore shipping, which saved the company over a million dollars.
