Career Objectives
Experience: Engineering, 20 Years of ExperienceCareer Specialty:
Manager of Software Quality
Degree Earned: None
Preferred State: MA
Objective A Manager of Software Quality position that utilizes my
exceptional interpersonal skills, my extensive experience in software
quality, my problem solving abilities, and my skills in planning,
training, implementation, and status monitoring in order to:deliver
high quality software on time, on budget;increase customer
satisfaction while decreasing support costs;and increase the
effectiveness of development engineers. Summary of Qualifications Over
20 years of Software Development, focusing on software quality and
productivity: Hardware Testing, Software Testing, Project Management,
Teambuilding, Change Agent, Software Metrics, Course Development,
Training and Teaching, Quality Circles, Formal Inspections,
Statistical Process Control (SPC), Continuous Improvement,
Requirements Gathering, Quality Function Deployment (QFD)
Selected Achievements Directed the test effort for a 30 person team to
meet the needs of a Japanese client with stringent testing and
reporting requirements. Conducted training, developed test plans,
created a test framework, and produced test metrics including weekly
charts of tests completed, tests working, bugs found, and bugs fixed.
Result: On time delivery of a high quality software system, and a
satisfied client.
Spearheaded a project to create Quality Circles in software
engineering. Developed and taught a course in continuous improvement,
problem solving techniques, and cost/benefit analysis. Facilitated
weekly voluntary meetings until the teams were self sufficient.
Result: Started over a dozen teams practicing weekly improvement
activities, with fewer bugs and increased customer satisfaction.
Revitalized the commitment to a major product that was destined to be
cancelled. Researched and diagnosed the problem, and persisted until I
had created and implemented a solution. Convinced management to revive
the project. Result: The product went to market and generated well in
excess of $1 million.
Created a Train-the-Trainer course for Quality Function Deployment
(QFD). After becoming recognized as one of the experts in QFD, and
then teaching QFD, I developed a course that trained others to
successfully train people in the QFD technique. Result: After
delivering the course a few times, over a dozen new QFD trainers were
promoting quality which led to better product designs.
Automated the operations of a small business. Researched their
requirements, recommended hardware and software, did initial
installation, setup and testing, customized some software to meet
their needs, and trained their staff to use the new system. Result:
They used the system to track inventory and sales far more
efficiently, and to prepare the text for their catalog. This
organization was the first in their industry to transmit their catalog
to the publisher via modem.

Developed and delivered a train-the-trainer course for Quality
Function Deployment (QFD), as well as facilitating more than a dozen
QFD's in Digital. Taught and led process improvement groups (Quality
Circles), and courses on Formal (code) Inspections. Created and led
monthly Software Quality Council meetings. Received a change agent
award from the Vice President of Software. Presented QFD at Quality
Conferences. Experience in SPC, Taguchi Techniques (DOE), metrics and
six-sigma. My emphasis during process intervention and change
management programs was on how to generate and maintain enthusiasm for
the continuous improvement activities. Key skill is Customer
Requirements Gathering.

implementation, and testing to ensure quality software. Products
delivered were the CAD tools used by the semiconductor engineers to
design the MicroVAX, CVAX, and Alpha chips, and for designing
semi-custom ICs.
Software Engineer, Diagnostic Engineering (1976-1983): In Diagnostic
Engineering, led many projects including customer-runnable
diagnostics, and a manufacturing diagnostic that used Artificial
Intelligence (rule based system written in Lisp) to quickly detect and
isolate errors on the manufacturing line. Created and maintained
processor diagnostics for KA10, KI10, KL10, various PDP-11 processors,
