Logan R. R. Perkins

MAJOR BEERY

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Summary

Beer hunter since 1979.

Have tried nearly 5000

different beers, yet never a Corona!

Sampled beer in 46

states, 21 European countries, 5 Asian countries, & elsewhere.

Traveling the country in

the magic van since Nov. 2008, seeking beer & friends.

Appeared twice on the

drinking show Three Sheets as a World

Beer Hunter, in Brussels and NYC.

2007 Wynkoop Beer Drinker

of the Year Finalist.

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF BEER DRINKING

I ve been drinking beers,

traveling worldwide for beers, meeting beer drinkers, collecting paraphernalia,

and watching the beer industry since 1979.

Hunting for new beers is exciting in that it can add adventure to nearly

any city or country visit. For me

drinking beer is about enhancing the quality of life through flavors, feelings, and friends. I love beer alone but especially enjoy

sharing with others. There s a flavor

you get from fine beers, a lovely feeling felt, and the fun of friends...lots

of friends...worldwide! I believe in

handling, collecting, and tasting beers with the same respect as a wine

lover. My appreciation of beer increases

yearly as my knowledge grows. I try to

keep everything in moderation, including moderation itself!

North American Travel and

Tasting Events

2009: Throughout 2009 I ve been on the road

traveling coast to coast in the magic van, visiting new and old beer towns

and locations. This trip began in

November 2008 from beer mecca San Diego and included extensive travels in the

winter throughout southern California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and New Mexico. Highlights included Barley Brothers in Lake

Havasu City, AZ, High Desert Brewing in Las Cruces, NM, Santa Fe Brewing, Big

Dogs and Feakin Frog in Vegas, Indulgence Retail store in the tiny town of Ajo

near the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument on the Mexican border, and the Carlsbad

Strong Ale Festival. In early 2009 I had

an extended stay in Colorado with many tastings and festivals (e.g. Vail Big

Beer, Belgian and Barleywine; Boulder Strong Ale, Avery Anniversary). By late Spring I headed to Wichita, Kansas

for a spectacular 100 IBU anniversary Ace s Imperial IPA from River City

Brewing. Next stop was the New Orleans

area where a persistent beer hunter can find many great beers and venues, from

d.b.a. to Abita. From there was a long

trip up the East Coast, including a celebration of Bells entering Georgia, an

overnight visit with 2 former BDOY winners in North Carolina, and visits to

various quality beer places in North Carolina, Virginia, Washington D.C., and

Maryland. In June I traveled to great

beer places in Philadelphia, NYC, Brooklyn, and Boston. Highlights included Monks and Eulogy in

Philly, the Beeradvocate Craft Beer Festival and the discovery of what for me

is one of the top 5 beer places on earth, Sunset Grill in Boston. Part of my objective in traveling is to

identify the best beers, beer places and overall beer cities/towns. With that in mind my return trip south

included Asheville, NC and an excursion to the Ratebeer Noogfest in

Chattanooga, TN. It s wonderful to find

gems in places that might otherwise be called beer wastelands. For example, I tried a double IPA from

northern Alabama and enjoyed a cask Pale Ale from Hurricane Brewing in Mobile. Next on the agenda was an excursion through

Houston to Austin, home of an excellent beer and homebrewing scene. By late summer I headed back to Denver and

then north to explore the national forests, hot springs and brewpubs of Wyoming,

three cities in Montana, and a taste of one of my favorite beers of 2009, Grand

Teton s barrel aged Dopplebock on tap at the brewery in tiny Victor, Idaho. Heading south included visits to various

Colorado brewpubs in Grand Junction, Montrose, Telluride, Cortez, Durango,

Gunnison, Crested Butte, Summit County, and a favorite, Trinity Brewing in

Colorado Springs, before heading back to Denver for the Great American Beer

Fest. The remainder of 2009 included

much time on the front range of Colorado and a heavy emphasis on collecting local

growlers for take home fun.
