EMPLOYMENT

Fernbank Science Center: ReproductiveHealth Educator/Biologist, August 2005 through March 2012. The center provides a variety of science education opportunities to all the students in Dekalb County School System as well as the Atlanta community.Fernbank hosts science classes as well as offering outreach programs. The center improves science understanding through specialized instruction from the staff who are trained in particular subjects in the field of science from ornithology to physics. My specialty was public health education/HIV/AIDS. This is done not only by instruction but through direct interaction and contributions to the development of new curriculum trends and innovations. My main duties were to provide reproductive health education to teachers and students in Dekalb County School System, grades 5-12. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Alliance Quality Education: Epidemiologist, December 2003 through February 2004 and September 2004 through August 2005. I worked as a contractor for the CDC:HIV/AIDS Division performing team-based qualitative data analysis for the Futures Initiative and the Minority AIDS research Initiative, respectfully. I developed analysis codebooks and coded individual and focus groups using AnSWR: Analysis Software for Word-based Records. I identified thematic clusters and relational items using UCINET. I prepared analysis reports and assisted in summarizing key findings. I also assisted in AnSWR training workshops.

Georgia Division of Public Health, Injury Prevention Section: Health Educator, March 2001 through May 2002. I worked on several CDC funded grants in suicide prevention, violence against women and dog bite prevention. I worked with diverse community partners to build local injury prevention coalitions around the state. I developed an injury prevention curriculum to be used in public schools as part of a social marketing campaign. I conducted formative, process, impact and outcome evaluations. I provided technical assistance to local agencies. Developed quantitative and qualitative surveys for the use at the community level; helped to manage data base development, data entry and analysis. I assisted in writing grants to federal and state funding sources.

Project M.A.G.I.C. Foundation, Inc. Making AIDS Go Away in Children: Graduate Assistant, April 2000 through January 2001. The project was a Georgia based foundation that promotes educational age appropriate intervention and prevention strategies to young people in order to help reduce and prevent the the spread of HIV/STIs. I conducted two program evaluations for the project and assisted with grant proposals.

Emory University Health Service: HIV Counselor, April 2000 through January 2001. I worked as a HIV/STI/Rape Crisis Counselor through Emory University.

Georgia Skin and Cancer Center: Medical Assistant, November 1996 through August 1998. I worked with a single specialty practice focusing on skin cancer. I assisted with surgical procedures, phlebotomy and skin cancer education.

The University of Georgia: Clinician Assistant, March 1996 through July 1996. I worked in the acute care clinic, which is an emergency room for the students, faculty and staff at the University.

The University of Washington Virology Laboratory: Research Technologist, November 1992 through December 1994. I worked under Dr. Lary Corey. I was in charge of organizing a HIV/HSV research study for the Chiron Corporation. I also processed specimens for the viral disease clinic as well as for viral cultures and serologys in the clinical lab. Other duties included training co-workers, media making and dispensing, cell culture inoculation, and tissue culture readings.

Full knowledge of most laboratory equipment and basic procedures including: cell separation, cell culture inoculation, aliquot serum, media making and dispensing and tissue culture.
