Skilled in the multi-step synthesis of air, moisture and light sensitive complex organic molecules,
especially heterocycles, polymers and photochemistry.
Well versed in separation, purification and characterization techniques such as matrix isolation,
chromatography, IR, UV/Vis, NMR, GCMS, EPR, TOFMS and single crystal X-ray diffraction.
Trained in analysis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) at Roche Pharmaceuticals.
Proficient in identifying problems, proposing solutions, data analysis of Density Functional Theory
(DFT) calculations and computational chemistry.
Education
Ph.D. in Chemistry, University of Nevada, Reno, expected Summer 2012
M.S. in chemistry with concentration in Pharmaceutical chemistry, Fairleigh Dickinson University
May 2007
M.S in chemistry, Tribhuvan University 2002
Research and related work experience
Graduate Research Assistant
University of Nevada, Reno. August 2007 to present
Designed, synthesized, purified and characterized novel trifluoromethyl diazirines, precursors of
carbenes of indole, benzothiophene, benzoxazole, benzothiazole, pyrrole and benzimidazole.
Purified and characterized target molecules and precursors using techniques such as
chromatography, IR, UV/Vis, NMR, GCMS, EPR, TOF-MS and single crystal X-ray diffraction.
Conducted and analyzed photochemical reactions and rearrangements of reactive intermediates
at low temperatures especially carbenes.
Studied, analyzed and characterized photoproducts of reactive intermediates at 10K, in solution
and at room temperature.
Carried out DFT calculations to analyze experimental results. Analyzed and compared the
theoretical results with experimental results.
