Contracted for Project/Upgrade the Multi-Socket IM-3016

The IM-3016 prom programmer is capable of programming simultaneously any 16 individual P-Roms up to 64 K-Byte. The upgrade would increase the top end size of 64 K-Bytes to 512 K-Bytes, also incorporating advanced features to allow the programmer to read the blank devices and properly configure the programmer to load properly. Duties included creating, documenting and training personnel to perform the technical troubleshooting required. To design the larger memory board that would be required for the increased P-Rom sizes, also the adaptor board to provide the additional signals to interface to the P-Roms. Redesign the cabinet of the IM-3016, to make it larger to accommodate the additional hardware but not look larger. Also to fix issues with the production process to speed up assembly time and to make changes to improve the appearance of the product to be more appealing. Finally make whatever changes necessary for the IM-3016 to pass all FCC requirements and achieve certification. All goals were achieved.

Data Terminals and Communications, Consulting Work Oct 1980 to June 1981

Contracted for Project/Upgrade, Design and develop the DTC-630 printer terminal and upgrade the DTC-302 legacy printer

The DTC-630 utilized the Diablo model 630 printer; design a processor interface that would perform all the advanced features of the DTC-382 including dynamic proportional spacing. Make all necessary mechanical attachments, create and document test and production procedures, Q/A requirements and packaging, the project completed and shipping out the door. The DTC-302 was a legacy project that involved a large client for DTC; they had a substantial investment in application designs as well as existing printers purchased from DTC. The Intel 4004 processor had been out of production for years and no longer available in any form. The project was to design a replacement processor card that would work form-fit-function as the original Intel 4004 model. I was able to accomplish this, reducing the card count from two down to one with no modifications to the existing hardware. The firmware was designed to emulate all defined functions of the DTC-302, but I also incorporated all new advanced features of the newer models such as proportional spacing and auto bi-directional printing. The client was so impressed with the results, in addition to their existing printer orders placed an order to upgrade/retrofit all their existing printers to the new version.

Data Terminals and Communications, Consulting Work May 1980 to July 1980

Design a Diagnostic Application for the DTC Microfile

Drafted up an initial specification, once approved began to block out the modules that would need to be written and coded. The diagnostic would need to be able to properly determine all the installed modules and configurations. From this information diagnostics were written for all system and hardware features, exercised to the maximum performance requirements. The results would be displayed on an on-board digital display and also transmitted to and external terminal or printer device. In addition to the diagnostics, an additional set of tools were created to permit the adjustment of both the floppy drives and power supply without having the hardware from the cabinet. The driving force for this application was to ensure customer confidence in DTCas equipment.

Data Terminals and Communications, Campbell, CA Sept 1974 to April 1980

From the lab I was given the assignment of setting up the Pre-Production lines, create the diagnostics and testing facilities, production schedules, inventory lists, Q/A standards and training materials. In time I was put in charge of the Technical Training department and traveled to several locations in the United States and Europe. Eventually received the assignment of Technical Service Manager and held that position until my fatheras health required me to relocate to Roseville, California. I informed DTC of my decision six full months before my departure to permit ample time to locate a suitable replacement.
