4/02/02 present Houston Gateway Academy, an open-enrollment charter school - Treasurer, Board of Trustees Appointed to the Board April 2, 2002; Duties: review financial statements, review budget for upcoming school years, review personnel policies, review internal accounting procedures to comply with Texas Education Agency (TEA) rules for charter schools; hired auditing firm for required annual audit (2002), hired appraiser for property and lease value determination (2003). Currently the 4 member board is managing/overseeing a school budget of approximately $7,000,000 for the 2009-2010 school year. As a state official, my decision process is focused on what serves the educational needs of our children (approx 750 kids for the 2009-2010 school year, pre-K - 9) and the fiduciary responsibility the Board position requires per state statute, with adherence to the Open Meetings Act & the Public Information Act. Presently there are no term limits applicable to this non-paid position.
