Institute and State University, Virginia Beach, VA

Research of Sustainable Site Initiative (SSI) submittable for Dr. Laurie Fox

-Similar to LEED, the Sustainable Sites Initiative (SSI) is a rating system developed for

the integration of sustainable building practices in the field of Landscape Architecture

and development. My work on this project involved the analysis and submission for credits

on the Virginia Tech Sustainable Landscape Practices Demonstration Garden Submission. For

our rating, I developed a collection of GIS analysis (ArcMAP 10), CAD models and an

extensive report for review. GIS mapping including hydrological, soil, climate and landuse

analysis along with the extenisve use of DEM and LIDAR data. Some GIS information was

transferred to AutoCAD aiding in the development of a site model utilized for identifying

and siting vegetation, drainage locations and other physical features. This analysis

culminated into a full report expressing our interest in specific credits available in the

rating system.

- Completion of Facilities Administration Management Information System (FAMIS) modeling

program. Editing, detailing, and distribution of campus wide building analysis utilizing

AutoCAD 2012. Goal of the project is to successfully deconstruct existing CAD models of

campus structures into readable FAMIS format. This is a part-time position assessed

annually for funding.

- LiDAR data management. Organizing, cleaning and compressing .LAS data for the state of

Virginia. Updating and organizing these data for our website and making them available for

the general public. Deliverables for this project include: 1. shapefiles depicting regions

of available LiDAR, 2. development of accurate metadata, 3. LAS to LAZ conversion, and 4.

reference maps guiding users to proper tile selection.

- Digitizing mangrove forests in the Dominican Republic. Developing polygons accurately

depicting mangrove shape and size according topographic maps scanned and referenced into

ArcMap 10. This project also includes the generation of metadata for future users.

Hertzler and George. WIlliamsburg, VA 20112012Project Manager

- This small design/build firm has offered me the opportunity to maintain full control

over projects from the inception of project to the finished product. The typical process

involved an initial client meeting with onsite assessment, site notation, and conceptual

sketching. Concepts are then developed with the guidance of company principles, estimated

and delivered to the client for project approval. Upon client approval, design concepts

are developed through collaboration with company principles, site foremen, and myself.

Materials,

staging, and equipment are finalized for final approval. The third phase of each project

placed me onsite for the duration of installation. This process allowed me to troubleshoot

changes, address client requests, and oversee phasing and budgetary constraints. These

projects include landscape, architectural, and structural engineering design and

installation ranging from $1,000 to $30,000 and include drainage, hardscaping, and,

architectural features.

Reese Planning and Design. State College, PA 2009 2011

- During the summer months of my graduate career I designed, modeled, and planned

landscapes for residents of State College, PA. During this time, I maintained a client

base of five to eight account and implemented my knowledge of local geography and terrain

to combine unique environmental features with landscape design practices. These designs

ranged from landscape to structural and included decking, hardscaping, gardens and flower

beds. Through this experience I built a new appreciation for combining design, theory and

environment elements.

Pennoni Associates. State College, PA 20082009Building Structural Designer

- The primary element of my work at this firm was the design, modeling, and translation

of building plans for large pre-cast concrete facilities. This involved the interpretation

of architectural site plans from third party clients into construction drawings, the

creation specification sheets for individual construction pieces, and the alteration of

these documents based on remedial requests. Designs were created using two and three

dimensional CAD modeling software. During my time here I managed two drafters in the
