Doctoral Candidate (2008-present
)
Machine Learning Group,
Department of Computer Science and
Engineering, University of Nebraska.
(1) Proposed, designed and implemented 4 algorithms for budgeted
machine learning on Bayesian networks under the setting that the
labels of the training data need to be purchased, subject to an
overall budget. The goal is to use the given budget to learn as good
classifier or hypothesis as possible. Built statistical model to test
the difference of our algorithms and existing algorithms. The
proposed algorithms outperform existing algorithms in the literature,
please refer my Ph.D. dissertation in [1]. These implemented
algorithms for budgeted learning are applicable to data analysis
applications (such as text or webpage classification, medical
diagnosis, email spam filtering, face detection in image analysis, and
credit card fraudulence) in which the feature values of the training
data needs to be purchased and a tight budget is given. Programming
language were C, Perl, Python, and Ruby.
(2) Proposed, designed and implemented 3 new algorithms and 2
techniques for budgeted machine learning of naive Bayes under the
setting that the labels of the training data need to be purchased,
subject to a tight budget. The goal is to use the given tight budget
to learn as good classifier or hypothesis as possible. Built
statistical model to test the difference of our algorithms and
existing algorithms. Experiment results show that the proposed
algorithms are better than existing algorithms and the proposed
techniques improve the performance of budgeted learning
algorithms. Related publications are in [4] and [5]. These algorithms
are applicable to data analysis applications in which feature values
of the training data need to be purchased and a tight budget is
given. Programming languages were Java, Perl, and Python.
(3) Proposed, designed and implemented 2 new algorithms for active
machine learning under the setting that the labels of the training
data need to be purchased and multiple noisy labelers exist and each
with an unknown accuracy and a different cost. The goal is to learn a
good classifier or hypothesis using as little cost as possible. Built
statistical model to test the difference of our algorithms and
existing algorithms. The proposed algorithms greatly outperform
existing algorithms in the literature, please refer publications in
[2] and [3]. These algorithms are applicable to data analysis
applications in which labels of the training data needs to be
purchased, multiple independent inaccurate labelers are available and
each labeler asks for a different cost for labeling. Programming
languages were Java, Perl, and Python.
Game Book Author (2007)
iunverse, Lincoln, NE (now in Bloomington, IN)
(1) Wrote book "Sudoku Puzzles: Can you find the UNIQUE solution
WITHOUT guessing" under pen name Ellen Square. Book is selling on
Amazon.com.
(2) Developed efficient algorithms to generate Sudoku puzzles. Each
Sudoku puzzle can be generated in seconds. Programming language was
Common Lisp.
Research Assistant (2005-2007) in Constraint Systems Lab, Department
of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Nebraska.
Developed the following softwares using Common Lisp: (1) Solver for
Golomb Ruler Problem. (2) Solver of Constraint Satisfaction Problems
(CSPs) with Graph Reduction technique. Applications are map coloring
problems, airplanes/trains scheduling, and lots of problems that have
constraints on time, space, or etc; (3) Structural decomposition
algorithms of CSPs, which is used to decompose the CSP into smaller
CSPs, therefore making solving CSPs easier (See publications [6], [7]
and [8]); (4) Binary CSP Generator and Solver.
Teaching Assistant (2002-2005) at University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE.
(1) Organized class discussions and graded student homeworks in
"Software Engineering" on topics of software requirement analysis,
software testing, etc.
(2) Designed homework and projects and graded student homework for
course "Constraint Processing" and "Artificial Intelligence". Graded
student homework of "Numerical Analysis"
.
Software Development Engineer (1998-2002) at Department of Computer
Science and Engineering Huazhong University of Computer Science and
Engineering, China.
(1) Designed a help system for a cost check and analysis management
system for Three-Gorges Construction Command Center, using
Powerbuilder and Oracle.
(2) Wrote code for IC Card management system for Wuhan Business
Administration Burea, using Powerbuilder and Oracle.
(3) Designed and wrote code for management system for maintenance
department of TCL corporation, using Powerbuilder and Oracle.
Lecturer (1998-2002) HUST, Wuhan IBM, China.
(1) Taught IBM AIX Operating System in IBM center to about 20
students.
(2) Taught C++ and Software Engineering in Huazhong University of
Science and Technology to about 100 students.
UI Design Engineer (1995)at Wuhan University Software Base, China.
Wrote code and designed layout for Biology Course Software, made clips
for various biology processes. Programming language was C.
