RESEARCH / WORK EXPERIENCE

GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT, School of Engineering, University of Vermont, Burlington, VT * 2005-2012

Charged with performing broad range of highly technical engineering operations related to evaluation of concrete bridge decks as well as control of small satellites. Performed data migration, post processing, and analysis of NDE methods, as well as ultra-wide band ground penetrating radar application on concrete bridge decks.

Selected Accomplishments

* Data Fusion Method for Nondestructive Evaluation of Concrete Bridge Deck - Developed 1st recordable use of data fusion method for nondestructive evaluation methods to measure accurate condition of bridge decks, allowing for use of optimal repair plans and decreasing cost of repairs and rehabilitation.

* Micro-electro-mechanical System (MEMS) Gyros for Use in Controlling Orientation of Small Satellites - Filed patent disclosure.

* Multi-sensor Periodic NDE on Concrete Bridge Deck - Introduced discrete Choquet integral as data fusion algorism-1st time ever used in assessing concrete bridge decking-without benefit of any previously documented data fusion algorisms or mathematical theories / models. Created successful mathematical theory and model that was successfully tested, recreated, refined, optimized, and applied to bridge decking, providing accurate condition assessment comparable with physical testing data.

* Recognized for outstanding research and conference / journal paper creation performance by receiving financial support for 6 consecutive years.

* Corrosion study for concrete bridge deck - published 6 conference / journal paper on this topic.

FIELD TESTING & INTERNSHIP, NDE Center at Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center, FHWA * 2009-2010, 2007, & 2006

Contributed significantly to testing and assessment of 2 bridges, collaborating effectively with Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT) at Rutgers University. Also played important role in field testing and evaluation of 2 bridge decks, working in conjunction with VDOT and CAIT at Rutgers University. As Intern, worked closely with staff from National Research Council on variety of engineering projects.

Selected Accomplishments

* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with multiple federal government departments, liaisoning effectively with officials in arranging critical meeting with project manager. Efforts resulted in resolution of key issues that had previously delayed funding and operations, resulting in project reapproval.

* Generated collection of valuable data during internship that resulted in publication of several research papers.
