Professor (Full) and Program Director, Masters of Education in Student Affairs, 2006-
2010, a collaborative masters program between the Division of Student Affairs and the UCLA
Graduation School of Education & Information Studies (GSE&IS) Higher Education and
Organizational Change Division (HEOC). Supervised by both Student Affairs and HEOC.
Duties: With an appointed design team, researched, developed, and presented the proposal
and curriculum to create a new M.Ed. in Student Affairs through the UCLA Graduate School
of Education Higher Education and Organizational Change (HEOC) Division. Currently
responsible for the development of all materials for recruitment, instruction, teaching,
internship sites and supervision, and fund raising.
Key Accomplishments
Researched and developed the M.Ed in Student Affairs with a design team of a HEOC faculty
member and a HEOC doctoral student;
Presented the program for approval to: the curriculum development committee, the HEOC
faculty, the GSE&IS higher education faculty, and the UCLA Graduate Council;
Developed recruiting materials for prospective students;
Developed internship sites at UCLA and at neighboring institutions;
Created handbook for internship site supervisors;
Created corporate marketing program with named internships and assistantships;
Developed cadre of potential Student Affairs faculty, in addition to the HEOC faculty, to
teach in this program;

Senior Associate Dean of Students Division of Student and Campus Life, 2009-2010 Duties:
Responsible for working with students as a Faculty-in-Residence (since 2001) in the 12,000
student- Living/Learning environment; initiating and maintaining a professional
development and diversity program for student affairs staff throughout campus that
includes seminars, workshops, and a coordinated website; assist student affairs
departments with strategic planning and fund raising efforts.

retention; campus and university relations; advising; crisis counseling; training and
education of the campus community related to social justice issues; provide support to the
LGBT Studies academic program and sit on the program s Faculty Advisory Committee; assist
with development and implementation of the Student Affairs mission and planning
statements, goals, and objectives; independently responsible for the development,
planning, implementation, evaluation, and expansion of programs and services reflective of
an increasingly diverse university community; grant-writing, development, and fundraising;
supervision of professional and student staff; responsible for a $200,000 annual budget.
Key Accomplishments:
UCLA campus recognized as one of the 20 Best Campuses for LGBT students, Advocate College
Guide for LGBT Students;
Established Lavender Graduation, an event that celebrates the lives and achievements of
LGBT
students upon their commencement;
Successfully wrote grant proposals to fund specific related projects totally over
$500,000 to date as well as a $500,00 endowed scholarship
Initiated a program with UCLA Development to raise funds through alumni contributions;
Established internships to provide undergraduates an opportunity to work in LGBT-related
community organizations;
Established an undergraduate course to help students become allies for LGBT people ;
Designed a new LGBT center and supervised the move into the new location;
Facilitated multiple strategic planning retreats with the executive board of the
Associated Students of UCLA which is the body that manages the bookstores, food services,
catering, and student government;
Created collaborative opportunities among the various student affairs departments and
student organizations for inclusion of all students;
Act as adviser of record for twelve UCLA LGBT student organizations;
Facilitated the training that assisted Student and Campus Life with initiating the CAS
assessment program in each department;
Alumnus of the UCLA Human Resources Professional Development Program;
Published books and articles related to LGBT issues in higher education;
Survived an undergraduate Outdoor Adventures multi-day camping/kayaking trip in
collaboration with the UCLA Recreation Center.
