PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Responsible for information technology services for a highly selective, national
liberal arts college; 2700
undergraduates, 260 faculty and 560 staff.
Supervise a staff of 30 information technology professionals responsible for academic
and administrative
computing, networking, web, media services, and telecommunications.
Report to the Vice President for Finance and Administration (before May 2010 reported
to the Provost.)
Manage annual operating budget of $4 million and capital budgets of over $1 million;
review and approve
all University contracts and grants for information technology hardware, software, and
services.
Member of the President s Council, c onvener of the Information Technology Advisory
Council, and
member of the Academic Computing Committee.
As part of the larger University strategic planning initiative, led an inclusive
process that created a new
strategic plan for information technology.
Worked with library, faculty development, and technology staff to establish cost -
effective services for
instructional technology including blogs, wikis, video streaming, and web conferencing.
Worked with the Marketing and Public Re lations to implement a distributed web content
management
system to maintain university and department websites.
Created plan to expand and upgrade the campus wireless network. This $1.5 million
project was partially
funded by an equipment gift from a University trustee valued at over $250,000.
Directed technology staff to simplify access and improve security by providing a single
ID and password
solution using Active Directory and Datatel administrative information system.
Established ongoing
security and privacy reviews for campus information services.
Promoted sustainable technology solutions including virtual servers, Energy Star
computer purchases,
print management solution, and participated in the University s sustainability planning.
Implemented ITIL best practices to improve technology services. Measured improved
campus perceptions
of technology service quality using the Techqual+ survey.

Coordinated work of Library and IT on projects including: electronic reserves, audio
and video streaming,
and digital library projects. Participated in planning for new University library, opened
January 2002.
Member of the Library Digital Projects Group.

Directed efforts to promote and support faculty use of the learning management system
and software
tools including blogs, wikis and podcasts.
Directed efforts to improve technology service quality including developing a service
catalog, service level
agreements, change management process, and help desk tracking system.
Worked with the University Communications office to implement a web conte nt management
system to
provide a consistent and cohesive university website.
Led implementation of university web portal with targeted messaging, web e -mail,
calendars, course tools,
and access to administrative systems including registration, grades and budgets.
Led conversion to new administrative systems; including Sungard Banner and SunGard
Advance.
Helped develop the University s Emergency Response Plan, coordinated development of the
IT disaster
recovery plan and operational handbook, and created a unified Information Technology
Security Policy.
Completed a plan to network the campus. "Yahoo! Internet Life" magazine named Illinois
Wesleyan
University #8 most wired college, May, 2000.
