Ima full-time freelance writer, editor, photographer, and publishing industry consultant in New York and the author of 13 non-fiction books on a variety of subjects. Six of the books were published under my own name by Running Press/Perseus Books, and seven of the books were ghostwritten. I have also published fiction and poetry in book anthologies and literary magazines. Books that I have edited have won a total of 21 awards.
Additionally, I have written articles for such national and international publications as Woman's Day, Travel Savvy, Business Insider, Just Luxe, South China Morning Post, Minerva Place, YourTango, and Medical Economics, to name a few, and I'm a magna cum laude college graduate with a B.A. in English.
I provide ghostwriting services, as well as critiques, line editing, substantive/developmental editing, and book doctoring. I specialize in self-help, popular business (including branding, HR, sales, marketing, and leadership), medical topics for trade and lay audiences (including alternative health, cosmetic surgery, dentistry, and dermatology), and sexuality subjects. I have written about diverse topics, however, including law (I'm a former legal assistant), real estate, travel, food, psychology, parenting, nature/wildlife, green issues, women's issues, art, and entertainment (music, dance, theater, and film). I have experience editing fiction, memoirs, and recipes, and I frequently ghostwrite and edit articles and marketing collateral for many of my clients. These materials include press releases, white papers, website copy, brochures, etc.

Deborah Grandinetti, Former Senior Editor, Running Press Book Publishers says:
"Melanie Votaw is a top rate professional. Within the last year, she completed three writing projects for our company. Each exceeded the editor's expectations, and each was delivered well before the deadline. The content was original, thoughtful, and well-organized, and required ridiculously little editing. Melanie is truly an editor's dream."
Debra Fine, Author of "The Fine Art of Small Talk" and "The Fine Art of the Big Talk," says:
Melanie Votaw is a talented writer/editor who helped me with the editing of one of my books and was instrumental in the polishing of my manuscript. I admire her work ethic and have already recommended her to a friend, who has also been very happy with her work. I would not hesitate to recommend Melanie again to anyone who needs writing or editing assistance.
Brenda Bence, Founder and President of BDA International, Ltd. says:
"Melanie is a joy to work with, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone who needs help with editing/writing. She is very dependable and works hard to meet deadlines. Melanie will go the extra mile to make sure her work meets or beats expectations. She is very 'client-conscious,' consistently checking back to make sure the work she is doing is consistent with what the client needs. A delight to work with!"
