Part of Senior Management Team for this 316-bed acute care hospital, one of the largest
community hospitals in North Carolina.
Responsible for budgeting, financial reporting and analysis, regulatory reporting,
investment and debt management, managed care contracting, and all financial operations of
the hospital, its parent, and sister corporations with assets totaling $200 million.
Responsible for all registration, billing, insurance, and other patient accounting
functions, 10,000 patient bills per month, $350 million revenue per year.
As Corporate Compliance Officer, leads multi-departmental Corporate Compliance Committee
of the Hospital, reporting to the Corporate Oversight Committee of the Board of Directors.
This committee ensures that privacy and security of patient data is safeguarded, and that
all hospital functions are conducted at the highest levels of integrity.
Responsible for Health Information Management department which translates all clinical
documentation for patient encounters into patient bills. This includes coding,
transcription, indexing, scanning and release of information.
Serves as a part of a special North Carolina Hospital Association committee to study
alternatives to existing State/Federal process to distribute funds for high indigent care
throughout North Carolina
LEGENDS DEVELOPMENT, LLC, Hickory, NC 1995 to 2004Vice President and Project Manager
Original partner of this company, which evolved from hospital consulting to real estate
development targeting senior adults.
Responsible for planning and problem-solving in areas of zoning, letters of credit,
construction, landscaping, maintenance, HOA documents and sales for 54-unit town home
project in Richmond, VA, which was successfully sold out in fall 2004 (approximately $13
million in sales).
Secured financing and rezoning for 25-acre independent living project in Mt. Pleasant,
SC, subsequently sold to another developer.
Served as primary contact for bankers and investors for all real estate projects.
Implemented conversions of traditional hospital-owned Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) beds
to a higher level of care, called subacute, at hospitals in Virginia, North Carolina,
South Carolina and Tennessee.
Served as advisor to health system executives, keeping them informed of major changes and
compliance issues in the complex, highly regulated SNF arena.
LOUDOUN HEALTHCARE, INC., Leesburg, Virginia 1989-1995Vice President of Finance, CFO
Responsible for land acquisition, subsidiary operations, and all financial functions of
this Top 100 $45 million suburban not-for-profit healthcare system, including corporate
finance, cost reporting, managed care contracting, information systems, medical
records/utilization, patient accounting, urgent care centers, nursing home beds and
ambulatory surgery center.
Coached and supervised managers of 100+ support personnel in 7 departments.
Maintained all banking and investor relationships.
