August 2009 to September 2010

Professional Counseling and Biofeedback Center Amarillo, Texas

Front Office Personnel

I worked part time, at around 20-21 hours per week. My primary responsibility was to maintain the front window, which consisted of checking in existing clients, collecting co-pays and fees, instructing new patients on paperwork that needed to be filled out and taking copies of insurance cards. I also held partial responsibility for answering the phones which had an extremely large variety of different outcomes. I completed intake assessments, which includes having a thorough knowledge of psychological protocols such as those for IOP (intensive outpatient group).

I had to be able to successfully place a potential client with the appropriate counselor based on their needs and insurance. I was HIPAA certified and maintained a professional manner that revolved around such guidelines. I interacted with approximately ten different providers simultaneously and was therefore proficient at handling schedules and paperwork, distributing everything to where it needed to be and was able to competently communicate with those providers based on their needs. I also administered and scored psychological evaluations for police academy applicants. These tests must be done efficiently and in a timely manner for the psychologist who will use them to clear these individuals for work. These tests include the NEO and the PAI. I also scored the SASSI for a chemical dependency counselor deciding on whether a patient will be entering IOP or not. One of the most important aspects was the face to face communication and interaction with clients at the window and on the phone. With some being in very sensitive situations, I had to be fully aware of my own words and tone of voice at all times, remaining calm and handling a situation with all the skills that I have successfully learned in college.
