Research in Progress

"Agent Based Modeling System for Emergency Preparation and Disaster Response" (Planning)

As part of the FSU Center of Homeland Security Initiative, Dr. Vikas Agrawal and I are

working on an agent based modeling system to simulate a disaster and measure how well

emergency procedures respond to the disaster. The idea is a software simulation tool that

will

allow administrators to simulate various disaster circumstances and measure the quality

of

various emergency procedures.

This research area has been identified during Center of Homeland Security Initiative

meetings

which included Dr. Thomas Conway and Dr. Charles Curtis of FSU Academic Affairs

Department and various representatives of the Department of Homeland Security and their

Centers of Excellence.

This research is currently in the planning stages, as Dr. Agrawal and I are corresponding

with

various emergency response experts including FSU's Director of Emergency Management

George Tatum to gather details that can be included in the simulation. We are also

actively

searching for grant opportunities applicable to this research.
