Support Consultant

In this role I provided accounting conversion assistance for the rural electric

utilities. This involved extensive travel to do system analysis, software training,

extensive first week live support, and month end closing support.

Business Manager/Comptroller

Twenty years of experience as the chief financial officer of one of the largest

organizations in the State of Missouri to serve people with mental retardation and

developmental disabilities. Emmaus Homes serves over 350 people with residential and day

programs, various therapies and sheltered employment.

Performed all financial reporting, non-recurring general ledger entries, bank

reconciliations and cost accounting.

Provided leadership to manage accounting and payroll systems (550 employees, in-house

payroll and online time clock system), computer information systems (Novell and MS-SQL

servers, 75 PC's), cost accounting systems (distributed 13 overheads to 117 program cost

centers), risk management systems. Supervision of a staff of nine bookkeepers (A/P, 2 A/R,

C/R, P/R, two patient Accountants, two benefit specialists), one secretary, one accounting

manager, one assistant comptroller, and one management information systems manager.

Provided leadership to the Board of Directors and several Board Committees (Finance,

Insurance, Long Range Planning, Executive) presented and interpreted financial statements

including cost accounting reports and unit cost analyses, wrote and reviewed minutes,

followed-up on Board and committee directives.

Controlled and reduced insurance costs by developing specifications, searching the

marketplace, and procuring insurance to protect the agency via Workers Compensation,

General Liability, Professional Liability, Auto Liability, Property, Directors and

Officer s Liability, Employee Practices Liability, and Umbrella Liability insurance.

Led the agency through several computer upgrades; from mainframes to PC networks; from

old custom software to off-the-shelf applications; including software, hardware, several

network operating systems, and peripherals. Managed the MIS function personally for eight

years and then supervised a MIS manager for the last twelve years. Proficient at MS Word,

Excel, Access, MIP Advantage Accounting, Abra HR & Payroll, FrontPage, Powerpoint, and

many other software programs.

Procured and administered the employee fringe benefit systems including self-insured

group health, life insurance, supplemental insurance, tax sheltered annuities (403b), and

employee assistance. I developed the specifications for all fringe benefits, received and

reviewed all proposals, made recommendations to staff and board committees, and

implemented benefits via employee meetings. Then I set up the HR and Payroll software for

company paid benefits and employee deductions. including pension, self insured health

plan, and life insurance.

based services for MRDD.

Served on a task group for the Council on Health and Human Service Ministries of the

United Church of Christ to develop a property/liability group for a nation-wide insurance

program for the Council with over ten million dollars in premium. Served on the Council s

Insurance Commission.
