Marketing Coordinator City of Sioux City, Sioux City, IA 1999-2000
Established entirely new Marketing and Public Relations Division. Served as the director
of all marketing and public relations responsibilities including internal and external
communications for 16 departments (Streets, Economic Development, City Managers Office,
Police, Fire, Transportation, Garbage Disposal, Water, Waste Water, Public Needs, Finance,
Engineering, Human Resources, Museum, Library, and Civil Rights Commission) and managed
the Citys live 24-hour broadcast station.
Developed five year Marketing and Public Relations Plans
Managed communication and education of the public of the City budget issues, the
emergency storm water flooding situation in coordination with the Army Corps of Engineers,
Economic Development Marketing, and several additional business and community issues
concerning long-term, large, multimillion dollar projects.
Established the new division within the City of Sioux City through training,
development of new programs, building awareness, and developing work teams with a little
over $150,000.
Implemented many new programs to ensure sustainability of the new division including
baseline research through the following new programs: Citizens Opinion Survey; building
community partnerships (Litter Busters, We Drive With Pride, Customer Service Surveys,
Green Team, Bucket Brigade), designed educational print materials, advertising campaigns,
promotional materials, created Public Service Announcements (PSAs), developed new
marketing and customer service training programs, established tracking measures and
established performance measures.

Managed marketing and public relations for the Community Marketing program jointly funded
and supervised by the City of Rock Island, Rock Island-Milan School District #40, and
Renaissance Rock Island (Rock Island Economic Growth Corporation and the Development
Association of Rock Island) answering to over 62 separate board members (City Council,
DARI Board, Rock Island Economic Board, and School District #40 board) on all program
developments. Direct supervisor was the Superintendent of Schools.
Developed five year strategic community marketing and public relations plan.
Designed and implemented several community partnership activities to help garner a more
positive image of the community (Citizens Idea Fair, REALtours, Media Tours, Broadway
Mothers Day Walk, Civil War Reenactment, and Neighborhood Open Houses), produced many
print publications for educational purposes (including the community newsletter),
developed many new programs to enhance customer service for the City and enhanced
