Owner

Started and managed an automation controls engineering company that specialized in material handling and process control. This company was started as a buyout of my previous employer. In addition to the tasks that were outlined in my position with US Systems, I added the tasks of implementing the business procedures and policies for the company to follow.

Achievements One of only three authorized vendors for Homeland Security / TSA for design, installation, and integration of Explosion Detection Systems in Automated Baggage Handling systems in the US and Caribbean. Completed in excess of 50 projects using our technology with combined project values exceeding $200 million over a 5 year period following 9/11. Successfully managed the design, installation, and implementation of the automated material handling system for construction of the San Roque earthen dam project in Taiwan. Overall project value was in excess of $500 million, with the controls and automated systems contract in excess of $3.8 million. Directed and managed the development of a high speed PLC controlled sortation system to replace and upgrade the distribution facilities for a major office supply chain in nine of their east coast distribution facilities. Implementation of this system allowed the company to increase output from their facilities by over 60%, and reduce labor costs over 30%. Managed the design, programming, and implementation of a $2.5 million automated guided vehicle system for Nestle Foods, allowing the company to reduce workforce in their Good Start production facility by 25%, with an overall ROI of just over 6 months. Managed the design, installation, and implementation of a complete rehab and renovation of a rocket test stand for NASA. Our scope was the retrofit of a 300 ton crane used for lifting rockets in position for test firing in conjunction with the Constellation Space program, Ares Shuttle, for NASA in Huntsville, AL. Overall objective was to design a system utilizing the existing stand and hardware built in 1964 by upgrading control components to a more modernized system that would reduce operator workload and insure a higher level of safety over the original design. Handled direct oversight for the development of a proprietary dynamic weigh scale system for use in overland belt conveying systems. Project was designed to implement accuracy in a PLC based system that allows for weigh scale certification to plus or minus .5% accuracy. Our system has sold over 500 units since its design.

Achievements Coordinated all efforts between the design teams, programming staff, and fabrication team with the plant personnel including maintenance teams as well as corporate management project teams. Designed and implemented a new technical planning procedure for the development and implementation of Project Functional Descriptions and Automated System Development. Coordinated the development of all internal Functional Factory Acceptance Test procedures Coordinated the development of the companys procedure for support procedures and the design of our customer deliverable document packages including writing and production of all technical procedure manuals.
