2011 Global Midwifery Strengthening Georgetown University:
Led development of proposal, budget and external partnerships for a 6 month certificate
program to strengthen the capacity of US certified midwives to support global midwifery
outcomes. Program proposal currently under approval review. First cohort of enrolled
students expected in September 2012.
2011 Healthcare Workforce development Task Team: Georgetown University, Center for
Disease prevention and Health Outcomes O Neill Institute for National and Global Health
Law
Faculty team member developing opportunities for Georgetown University to support
healthcare workforce development in Africa and India.
2009 present Nurse Capacity Strengthening in India Georgetown University: Originated
and directed the start-up, development, implementation and evaluation of a nurse capacity
building program to strengthen the delivery of HIV/AIDS services to vulnerable groups
throughout India by Catholic health institutions. Negotiated and partnered with Ministry
of Health and National Nursing Board of India, the Catholic Guild of Indian Nurses, the
Catholic Medical Mission Board, and other external partners. Resulted in the
implementation of an additive program, based on ongoing evaluation, that provided HIV/AIDS
education and program planning for 50 Catholic nurse leaders who reached over 250,000
people at high risk for contracting HIV or living with HIV/AIDS in their home communities.
2009 - 2010 Global Midwifery Strengthening Georgetown University: Member of a task
force developing a new program, including curriculum, to strengthen US support for global
midwifery outcomes. Contributed to the components to be included in the program to prepare
students to meet the midwifery needs of developing countries. Developed course outline
Perspectives in Global Maternal and Newborn Health .
2008 - 2009 Nurse Capacity Strengthening in Sub-Saharan Africa Georgetown University:
Directed the start-up, development, implementation and evaluation of a nurse capacity
building program to strengthen the delivery of HIV/AIDS services to vulnerable groups in
Sub-Saharan Africa. Negotiated and partnered with African country Governments and US
Government development agencies (USAID, CDC, PEPFAR, HRSA), and external partners.
Resulted in the implementation of an additive program, based
on ongoing evaluation, that i) exceeded implementation and scale-up targets; ii) doubled
program funding; and iii) developed public/private partnerships for long term
sustainability; iii) peer reviewed Competencies for HIV/AIDS Nursing in Sub-Saharan
Africa.
2006 - 2010
Maternal Mortality in Africa and South Asia World Bank: Co-authored a capacity building
research proposal to investigate maternal mortality reduction in Africa and South Asia.
Resulted in recommendations for best practices.
2004 Reproductive and Child Health in India World Bank: Developed Board level
supplemental funding proposal for a reproductive and child health program in India.
Authored the papers that secured an additional $10 million award for targeted
interventions to priority need areas. Resulted in additional support and resources being
applied to high need areas in India with poor maternal child outcomes.
2002 - 2003 Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Start up - Rural Health International:
Initiated the vision and development of a NGO providing Maternal Child Health capacity
building for healthcare professionals in Malaysia. Authored the initial proposal that was
awarded a government contract for maternal-child health post basic professional training
in-country. Implemented the initial operational activities in Malaysia. Resulted training
opportunities for physicians and nurses, specifically around management of gestational
diabetes.
1999 - 2001 Neonatal Outcomes in Saudi Arabia Riyadh Military Hospital: Designed and
led an evaluation project of nursing interventions on neonatal outcomes in Saudi Arabia.
Organized and managed the evaluation. Initiated and led the next project phase as
evaluation findings were incorporated into nursing policy. Resulted in nursing clinical
and cultural competence standards.
1987 Community Outreach - Pediatric Cardiac Care and Education Programs in Saudi Arabia
and United Kingdom: Initiated and implemented pediatric cardiac care and education
programs. Organized and implemented community outreach and follow-up programs for infants
and children. Resulted in earlier admissions and likely less hospital re-admissions in
Saudi Arabia and the UK.
1985 - 19881981 - 1985Volunteer Activities: Mission Clinic in Pokhara region of Nepal and Mission
Hospital in Cameroon: Provided basic health care, health education and health provision
training, particularly reproductive health, to girls and women.

development. Resulted in i) program strengthening activities addressing course content and
administration; ii) admission of two high quality cohorts of students a year; iii)

2006 - present Premature Infant Outcomes and Health Care Expenditure - University of
Alabama at Birmingham:
Originated, developed and implemented perinatal outcomes research. Led a study involving
12 million deliveries in the U.S. that showed health care expenditure reduction for a
cohort of infants during a period of changing technologies.
2000 - 2001 Infant Outcomes -Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV: Managed
the development of a Phase I/II proposal of protease inhibitors to augment the use of AZT
in the prevention of mother to child transmission. Resulted in multi-centered trial being
initiated.
1995 - 1996 Premature Infant Outcomes Georgetown University Medical Center: Implemented
Phase I/II clinical trial in a multi-center site addressing Respiratory Syncytial Virus
(RSV) in premature infants. Resulted in successful implementation of trial with no loss to
follow-up.
1994 - 1995 Volunteer Activities:
Summer Camp: led a team of nurses providing emergency and primary health care for 150
children and 80 adults at a summer camp in Maine.
American Red Cross: provided volunteer selection and deployment support for international
volunteers.
