EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
VALIDATION ENGINEER, Present
General Motors Co, Warren, MI
for HVAC, Powertrain Cooling and Thermal Systems Responsible for validation of all HVAC
and Powertrain cooling components (compressor, condenser-radiator-fan module, HVAC module,
A/C and radiator plumbing, ducts, outlets). For 2012 model year Buick Verano program:
Obtained and reviewed supplier ADVPR's, data and supplier letters, and coordinated
completion of GM3660 forms for validation sign-off. Coordinated MVSS103 testing. Compiled
MVSS Compliance Summary. Ensured all testing and documentation was complete for VTC and
VDC for 2012 Buick Verano program. Responded to and issued PRTS. Participated in hot and
cold weather HVAC Vehicle Development ride trips. For 2013 and 2014 model year Buick
Verano and Chevrolet Cruze programs: Worked with development engineers to create vehicle
validation plans. Worked with design engineers and suppliers to create ADVPR's for
components. Participated in DRBFM's, DRBTR's and Hoist Reviews. Training: Competed GM
Validation Apprentice training; Validation Journeyman training is 90% complete. Currently
working in E2, PartFinder, GDM, TeamCenter Application Sharing, VisMockUp, WebEx, MS
Office. Special Project: Temporarily assumed role of Thermal Development Engineer to
evaluate an Electrical Power Steering system.
QUALITY ENGINEER for Warranty Analysis, 01/2010 - 05/2010Johnson Electric, Plymouth, MI
Responsible for warranty analysis of Ford power train cooling fan modules containing DC
motors and pulse width modulated DC controllers, and HVAC blend door actuators containing
DC motors and printed circuit boards. Performed electrical and durability testing on
cooling fan modules, DC controllers, and blend door actuators. Performed part tear down
and inspection analysis. Used micrometers, digital multimeters, power supplies, digital
camera photography, computer-based macro-camera photography, to perform failure analysis
of warranty parts. Retrieved warranty data from Ford AWS system. Used MS Excel to create
warranty bar charts and trend charts. Complied with TS 16949 requirements. Participated in
warranty meetings with Ford customer. Special project: Supported field quality engineer by
fabricating electrical harnesses and switch box components.
GRADUATE ENGINEERING STUDENT, 01/2009 - 12/2009Lawrence Technological University
03/1998 - 11/2008Johnson Controls, Inc, Plymouth, MI
PRODUCT ENGINEER, 01/2003 - 01/2008Johnson Controls, Inc, Plymouth, MI
Provided current-product engineering support for Ford, Nissan and Honda power/manual seat
tracks including DC motors, and manual recliners, produced by Johnson Controls and
external suppliers
01/2003 - 01/2008Johnson Controls, Inc, Plymouth, MI
Released product/drawing changes requested by customers and manufacturing plants.
Gathered cost and timing impact for engineering changes, coordinated prototype build,
updated specifications, assessed material change requests, updated Design Failure Mode and
Effects Analysis (DFMEA), communicated with customers, validated changes. Worked with
Finite Element Analysis team, manufacturing locations, designers, Metallurgists,
Validation Engineers and seat system engineers to assess impact of requested changes.
Analyzed warranty parts for root cause; coordinated problem solving with suppliers.
Provided support to new seat system launch. Researched and implemented rust prevention for
manual recliners, to improve quality. Provided new-product engineering support to the Ford
C346 seat development team for power and manual seat tracks during "Phase One/Two" of
product launch process (2008). Created engineering deliverables including Advanced Design
Validation (ADV) Plan and Design Validation Plan & Report (DVPR), initial Bills of
Materials (BOM), initial Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), to support
Product Launch System (PLUS), including Design, Safety and Requirements Sign-offs. Worked
with designers, manufacturers, seat system engineers, and Finite Element Analysis tea
m to develop and assess design strategies for customer-requested changes.
COORDINATOR OF CO, 01/2002 - 01/2005Johnson Controls, Inc, Plymouth, MI
Managed the Kettering cooperative work/education program for a large engineering
organization. Interviewed and selected students, bringing ten new students into the
program. Secured work assignments for students; ensuring all had high quality work
experiences. Assisted and mentored senior students, helping all to obtain suitable thesis
topics.
WARRANTY ENGINEER and LAB. MANAGER, 01/1998 - 01/2003Johnson Controls, Plymouth, MI
Managed a warranty returned parts analysis laboratory for electro/mechanical seat
mechanisms including DC motors. Supervised two technicians. Performed role of both
warranty engineer and lab. manager. Analyzed warranty parts and cost/rate data, performed
failure analysis and root cause analysis, recreated failure modes, maintained database and
analysis equipment, monitored countermeasure effectiveness through open warranty issue
lists, warranty trend charts, 8D's and 5-phase processes, created warranty roadmaps,
determined warranty chargeback/warranty sharing proportions, for Ford, GM, Honda,
Chrysler. Developed warranty reduction process document for release into corporate system.
Used in-house designed test stands and Schap testers to assess samples. Result: Reduced
warranty rates through analysis of 1500 manual/power seat tracks/DC motors and recliner
samples/year. Analyzed warranty parts from Ford, Daimler Chrysler, General Motors,
Mercedes, and Honda, in order to participate in all available warranty reduction programs.
Assisted Honda to develop their supplier warranty process; one of five suppliers chosen.
Received Merit Awards for warranty reduction for Honda and Chrysler products. Used
programmable cycle test machines, stability and speed of operation test stan
Performed role of warranty engineer and lab. manager; analyzed warranty parts and data
Supported Honda, GM, Chrysler, GM, Mercedes and Tier One customers
