BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

Chase Saunders is a Charlotte native, married 38 years, with children and grandchildren.

He attended Charlotte schools, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, CPCC, and

Queens. He studied law and served as an Assistant District Attorney, Chief District Court

Judge, and Superior Court Judge prior before entering the private practice of law with a

the McNair Law Firm which has offices in both Carolinas. His practice includes business

areas, mediation and arbitration, and general litigation. He is active in the civic and

JUDICIAL BACKGROUND

Judicial: Retired N.C. general jurisdiction Chief District and Senior Resident Superior

Court Judge with twenty-one years bench and jury trial experience in all civil and

criminal litigation matters including commercial, personal injury, malpractice, and death

penalty cases. Service on the bench required conducting several successful political

campaigns. For 16 years he was the Program Committee Chair for the N.C. Conference of

Superior Court Judges.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION PRACTICE

Alternative Dispute Resolution Experience Mediation experience in over 1000 cases

involving shareholder and director disputes, personal injury, malpractice, contract,

complex business cases, hardware and software contracts, hospital disputes, environmental

issues, intellectual property, condemnation, Uniform Commercial Code, EEOC, textile

extruding and printing machinery, real estate, business torts, non-compete, estates and

probate, securities, construction, DENR, employment, workers compensation, domestic,

patent, shareholder, attorney, healthcare, and accounting matters.

Arbitration experience in over 300 cases involving the same areas noted above with a

focus on complex cases serving as an individual arbitrator or as a member of a panel. Has

served as a panel chair in over 90% of the cases served upon with AAA as well as others.

Private arbitration: director and shareholder disputes. Umpire evaluation of liability

and damages in fire and casualty loss cases. Receiver service as a receiver in business

liquidation matters. Referral work from federal and state courts.

infringement, health care provider patient disputes, collection, construction, property

damage, estates, technology auditing, website, robotic welders, photo-processing

governmental, environmental, franchises, stucco, trademark and patent, wrongful death, non-

competition agreements, business breakups, broker-customer FINRA securities issues, etc.

involving multiple parties and complex issues for State and Federal Court. I mediate over

150 cases per year.

MEDIATION CONSULTATION WITH ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS

Engaged by universities to consult on faculty and town and gown disputes in 2000 and 2001

with the design of dispute resolution systems. Mediation of faculty peer to peer matters.

TECHNOLOGY MEDIATION/ARBITRATION

Mediated and arbitrated software and hardware, copyright, trademark, and installation

disputes involving private businesses and governments.

MEDICAL MEDIATION/ARBITRATION

Mediated, arbitrated, or presided over zero to six figure+ cases involving physicians,

opticians, hospitals, medical service and product suppliers. Extensive personal injury

evaluation mediation experience involving body parts, percentages of disability, and pain

and suffering. Handled over 500 personal injury cases including medical malpractice in my

39 year legal career. Medical malpractice cases include misdiagnosis of eye conditions,

radial keratotomy; breast cancer, arteriograms, foreign objects, and wrongful death

arising from improper medication, etc.

ARBITRATION

Served on construction, UM/UIM automobile liability and damages, personal injury,

construction, common carrier, buy sell agreements, CERCLA, medical malpractice, public

school employee removal, securities, efficiency studies, license agreements, fire loss

cases, medical industry hospital and product disputes, hotel industry disputes, FINRA

securities disputes in both an individual and multi-panel arbitrator capacities on

suitability, fraud, fiduciary, and trading ahead cases.
