September 1999August 2001 (2 years)

Hired to assist Williams Communications Company (Tulsa, OK) develop a workable

telecommunications business continuity plan for their Network Operation Center (NOC). The

immediate problem was that the NOC would be made inoperable during construction of a

second Williams tower with the new cross link between buildings. I found a suitable

hardened secure emergency NOC location several miles away, which was immediately approved

and implemented by the WCC Board. Williams Communications is still using this location

today as it is still serving their needs. My threat analysis revealed that the Tulsa

airport frequently closed in winter storm conditions, isolating Tulsa and making distant

travel impossible in winter. I left the job upon successful completion.

Jim Myers' Patents

LED Hazard Marker for Military Applications

United States Patent Retained by Texas Instruments via Patent Disclosure

Issued June 15, 1993

Inventors: Jim Myers

While participating in Operation Desert Storm with the US Army, I discovered that our

Thermal Viewers could 'see' Saddam Husain's ceramic (non-metallic) anti-tank mines at

night for easily routing armored columns around the mines. The problem was that not all

drivers had thermal viewers, we needed a simple way to mark the thousands of mines so that

vehicle drivers could avoid contact with the mines. I invented a simple three piece

device, easily manufactured and using a single AA battery, that could be air dropped close

to a mine to safely mark it for approaching vehicle drivers. Actually, thousands of the

devices were manufactured and delivered in time for the operation. It worked perfectly!

Jim Myers' Education

Ohio University

MS, BS Engineering and Technology, Engineering

My Freshman year, successfully designed and built a prototype Crab Angle Landing Receiver

(Avionics Engineering) to help win a FAA/NASA research grant for the Engineering

Department. The landing receiver worked by measuring the phase difference of two received

signals from two wing mounted dipole antennas transmitted from a single point transmitter

at the far end of the runway. The phase difference automatically calculated the cross-wind

landing angle (crab angle) used by the pilot during landing to automatically steer the

landing gear parallel with the runway. Thus avoiding tire and landing gear damage from

cross contact stress and tire spin-up. This allowed the pilot to actually fly the airplane

in a cross wind without risk of landing gear damage. The pilot would then switch off the

crab angle control to manually turn onto the appropriate taxiway on the tarmac.
