New Product Introduction Engineer
Responsibilities: - Electro-Mechanical Assembly at contact manufacturers
Flextronics, Sanmina-SCI, Jabil to meet New Product deliverable's to
transfer products to any Ericsson manufacturing location in Europe, South
America, Mexico and China. Design review all mechanical parts and work with
suppliers such sheet metal, cables, injection molding, packaging, and
complete design for manufacturing and final first article qualification to
support CM level buyers. Generate Engineering change orders and bill of
material structures to support product release. Implement Ericsson Sweden
ways of working.
Accomplishments: Successfully released to production Ericsson's newest SSR
8000 product line. Change Redback bill of material and part number
structure to Ericsson to support config to order as part of production
release. Converted from Redback supply chain to Ericsson preferred global
suppliers Flextronics and Sanmina-SCI. Initiated Erimate initiative to
achieve Rohs Class 6 material declaration, affecting over 70 suppliers
across global commodities.
Redback Networks, San Jose, CA 2008 - 2009
Supply Base Engineer - Mechanical Parts and Assembly
Responsibilities: Qualify and manage Redback products with both domestic
and international suppliers. Collaborate during New Product Introduction to
implement processes that improved system design, quality and reduce cost.
Transfer existing production parts for sheet metal, cables, packaging,
labels, injection molding to low cost region in Mexico, Malaysia and China
supporting Redback contract manufacturers.
Accomplishments: Localized SE1200 to TTM Shanghai China using local
suppliers. Generated ramp up plan to deliver by sea container 3,500 units
in six month saving 40% of mechanical parts cost. PCBA face plate achieved
cost reduction support Jabil Mexico and Penang Malaysia for targeted saving
$300,000 per quarter. Completed new product introduction of Visby product,
included qualification of new contract manufacturer Flextronics USA and
China complete production at Flextronics China to allow first time initial
release to occur in low cost region. Created new document format for
drawings of all mechanical parts allowing designers to use standard
template's resulting 80 percent less documentation errors to significantly
reducing number of engineering changes after production release. Generated
production manufacturing and quality plans to provide CM and supplier
deliverable's during NPI - production.

Commodity Manager - Supply Base Engineer
Responsibilities: Commodity Manager for 20 million dollar start up
purchased by Ciena Inc. Responsible for all mechanical parts cost, quality
to support contract manufacture Flash Electronics in USA and Suzhou China.
Accomplishments: Completed ramp at Flash China of new product release
timed for AT & T qualification audit to include production ramp of 10,000
units in two months. Achieved Reduction of MRB / RMA aging to zero
dollars. Based on these successes the company was sold to Ciena who
relocated positions to east coast head-quarters.
Asyst Technologies, Fremont, CA 2003 - 2007
Commodity Manager - Supply Base Engineer
Responsibilities: Initiate processes and managed supplier qualifications,
Quality, Report Cards for domestic and international suppliers with
extensive traveling Singapore - China. Directed and managed supplier
management including competitive quotation packages, negotiations, quality
management and supply to six month build plan. Collaborated with design and
product marketing teams on new product releases to ensure that supplier
were qualified and met project deadlines. Supported commodities included,
machined, castings, extrusions, sheet metal, cable assemblies, moldings
suppliers. Maintain "copy exactly" process to maintain Intel - Applied
Materials customer requirements.
Accomplishments: Saved 28 million dollars across eight product lines.
Negotiated supplier business award by product line and target cost reducing
quotation lead time and improved part quality at assembly when demand
forecast was near zero. Transferred and re-qualified 8,500 part numbers to
new suppliers in Asia pacific. Reduced approved vendors by 70 percent.
Generated web based first article tracker for reporting copy exactly AVL
changes to product marketing. Generated cosmetic design standards and
updated all drawings to clean up extensive red line drawings at USA supply
base. Implemented manufacture equipment and CMM (coordinate measuring
machine) calibration to match Solectron CMM to reduce inspection error and
improved root cause failure analysis. Qualified lower cost supply base in
Malaysia and China for ongoing cost reductions. Reduced MRB - RMA aging to
1 week. Increase commodity quality to 99.9% at target suppliers. Support
hire and training of local supply base engineer to support ongoing
production. Created 24 hr proto buy process to reduce receipt of proto
parts to one week from any global supplier. Complete NPI release for
Spartan and next generation ISOPORT product-line for 300mm wafers. I was
promoted to Commodity Manager.

Responsibilities: New Product Introduction, sustaining production,
supplier qualification of Plastic, Sheet Metal, Cables, Packaging,
Connectors, Software Doc. Sets, Labels, Fans, Fan tray assemblies, Site
Tooling Budget. Advise operation management global production road map for
United States Europe and Asia pacific expansion.
Accomplishments: Implemented multiple cost reductions, though
negotiations, improved supplier global selections and implementation of
hard tooling. Chair weekly NPI team meeting at mechanical suppliers to
support new product release schedule. Release Ascend - Lucent global
packaging design & test requirements, global cosmetic & workmanship
standard, supplier quality agreement, supplier score card for mechanical
suppliers.

Supply Base Engineer
Responsibilities: Sole supply base engineer for Sun's desk side server
products, responsible for supplier qualification of Injection molders,
sheet metal, internal cable assembly, fan tray assembly and electrical
mechanical assembly suppliers NPI cost and Tooling design, budget and cost
reduction related to hard tooling. Product release must achieve production
goals in both Sun factories located in USA and Scotland.
Accomplishments: Member of tooling commodity team responsible for over 200
production tools representing $4 Million in spend. Implemented Sun Auto
MRB- RMA program and reduced defective material aging to one week or less.
We achieved highest rated supplier quality and technical performance as
measure by Sun supplier scorecards.
