September 2000 to present
In my practice I represent individuals and small businesses. I perform
legal research, draft documents for clients such as ACT, Inc. I also
proofread and edit legal journals and blogs, including translated
international articles. For my work with youth I was nominated for a 2007
Congressional Coalition "Angels in Adoption" award by Senator Tom Harkin
and presented with the award by Senator Charles Grassley. I have mentored
new attorneys and was also asked to serve on several boards and committees
such as the Partnership for Safe Families Advisory Board; Transitioning
Youth Committee; Linn County Juvenile Court Guardian ad Litem Committee;
and Linn County Bar Juvenile Law Committee.

I was an attorney handling a variety of cases before state and federal
administrative tribunals and trial and appellate courts including social
security, family law, juvenile law, and civil rights issues. My work
included researching and writing legal briefs at all federal and state
level courts.

I was an adjunct professor teaching Civil Litigation and Legal Research

I was a Fair Housing Specialist investigating housing discrimination,
conducting community education and outreach, and developing programs under
a limited grant.

I was an Assistant Lawyer Disciplinary Counsel investigating and
prosecuting ethics violations by attorneys.
Juvenile Justice Committee/Facilities Review Panel
I was the Executive Director of an independent state agency that monitored,
inspected, and issued public reports on facilities where West Virginia
juveniles were placed during its sunset legislative period. I served on
various committees and task forces involving children's issues such as the
West Virginia State Child Fatality Review Commission (including drafting
its enabling legislation); West Virginia Supreme Court Task Force on Child
Abuse and Neglect; West Virginia State Committee on Juvenile Detention.
Appalachian Research and Defense Fund, Inc.
I was a Staff Attorney in two separate satellite legal aid offices with a
varied poverty law caseload, including consumer law, civil rights, landlord-
tenant, Social Security, welfare, unemployment insurance, education, home
foreclosures, domestic relations, and bankruptcies. I served on committees
that turned an empty school into a domestic violence shelter for women and
children and a committee that started a summer feeding program for
children.

I was a Staff Attorney with a varied poverty law caseload, including
