2. Ensuring all the activities related to deck maintenance are up to the mark like - preserving the painted surfaces of ship and maintain lines, running gear, cargo-handling gear in safe operating condition, checking from bow of ship or wing of bridge for obstructions in its path etc.
3. Turning wheel while observing compass to steer and maintain the ship on course, mops or washes down deck.
