Over 6 years of scientific research experience in aeration and solvent extraction of volatile and

biologically active natural products (small molecules) released by agriculturally influential

arthropod pest species using open, closed loop stripping analysis, and SPME techniques.

Over 6 years of experience in scientific research involving spectroscopic data interpretation that

includes mass spectra (including unknown structures from arthropods), NMR (H, C, P, DEPT,

classical and modern synthetic organic reactions. Deft in handling all the analytical and

organic techniques.

Excellent technical, communication and documentation skills. Generates high quality manuscripts

from day to day reports and protocols for submission into scientific journals.

Adept in devising significant solutions, managing day to day operations. Intellectual thinking with

abilities of motivating the team towards achieving organizational goal.

Research experience / Post doctoral researcher July 2010-present

University of California, Riverside, CA

Synthesized all four enantiomers of the sex pheromone of invasive scale Acutaspis albopicta

that has heavily infested avocado shipments from Mexico and identified its natural pheromone.

Micro-scale reactions were successfully performed with the natural extracts of the invasive

scale Acutaspis albopicta and the chirality of the sex pheromone was assigned.

Collected and analyzed insect produced chemicals from the bug Bagrada hilaris which is a

serious pest on cruciferous plants.

Collected, analyzed, and performed GC-EAD experiments with insect produced chemicals from

the fruit fly Trupanea vicina which is a native seed feeding pest on ornamental flowers.

Synthesized several semiochemicals that are being developed for practical applications and

integration into pest management programs.

Research experience / Doctoral researcher July 2006-June 2010

Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany

Identified and synthesized the correct enantiomer of the sex pheromone from spider Argiope

bruennichi.

Identification, analysis involving micro-scale derivatization, and enantioselective synthesis of the

novel surface lipids of the spider Argyrodes elevatus was successfully achieved.

Synthesized isotopic labeled polyunsaturated fatty acid and fatty acid methyl esters for

incorporation experiments with labeled pheromone precursors to resolve the biosynthetic

pathway of the pheromone released by the winter moth Operophtera brumata which is a serious

pest on deciduous plants.

Behaviorally active compounds were analyzed and identified from the pest beetle Pachnoda

interrupta (sorghum chafer) which were proven attractive in the field.

Bioassay for trapping spiders in the field with synthetic pheromone lures was successfully

demonstrated for the first time with spider Argiope bruennichi.
