Radio Frequency Engineer
? Senior RF Engineer with over 20 years Cellular systems
design and placement, including cell splitting, sectoriation and
modifications of existing cells to meet the current network
demands.
? Reduced expenses by pioneered innovative design approaches
that utilized micro cells, repeaters and broad band amplifiers.
Well versed with FCC and FAA requirements, including licensing
procedures.
? Increased customer satisfaction by solving numerous RF
interference issues throughout the region.
? Source Material Expert in Public Safety RF interference
mitigation procedures and techniques.
? Proficiencies include; Analog, CDMA and iDEN, propagation
performance analysis tools including frequency planning.
EXPERIENCE
Bryant Solutions Senior RF Analyst San Ramon CA Nov 2009 - Jul
2010
? Responsibilities: Identifying RF, Radio Frequency Interference for
various Cellular and Public Safety entities throughout northern
California.
To include frequency planning activities necessary for eliminating IM
"Intermodulation" interference, known as RF desence which is receiver
front end overload.
? PIM testing: "Passive Intermodulation" To further reduce IM issues
at cell sites I was fortunate to be involved first hand with PIM
analyzers used to find bad coax, antennas and connector issues.
Nextel Sprint Senior RF Engineer San Ramon CA Aug 1999 -
Mar 2009
? Responsible for on time design and placement of over 100 iDEN cell
sites in the Bay Area, some requiring unique stealth designs to
overcome the many obstacles presented in the zoning permit process.
Additionally, worked side by side with Optimization Engineers to
integrate these newly designed sites into the network; provided
pathways for promotions into management for these System Performance
Engineers.
? When Public Safety RF interference became an important issue;
Volunteered to become the Point of Contact for all Regional mitigation
activities while serving as the local interference mitigation expert,
resolving hundreds of issues for: Cities, Counties and Agencies
through out Northern and Central California.
? Headed up implementation of 900MHz radios, required frequency
clearing and noise floor interference mitigation for the entire
Northern California area, these new frequencies added in meeting
important re-banding dead lines
? Frequency re-banding activities required close hands-on involvement
with; Fresno Mobil Radio, Ray's Radio, Crystal Communications and La
Rue Communications, resolving all interference issues to hasten the
process.
? Appointed SME "Source Material Expert" for any and all interference
issues to iDEN 800MHz, 900MHz and CDMA 1900MHz issues.
? System Performance; When interference issues were low, I took on
additional responsibilities for System performance, working closely
with site technicians resolving equipment performance issues including
adding capacity where needed.
EXPERIENCE_CONTINUED
GTE - Verizon Wireless Radio Engineer San Ramon CA Jul 1989 -
Aug 1999
? Saved over $1 million by deploying a three-repeater solution to
provide cellular service along the California Coast Highway.
? Saved over $200,000 engineering an in-building repeater system
purchased by the customer, a company first.
? Achieved a proven record for the deployment of over 60 cellular
transceiving sites in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
? Created and implemented a unique Micro Cell design approach
eliminating the necessity of deployment of additional sites, saving
several hundred thousands of dollars in deployment costs.
? First with GTE Wireless to utilize PG&E high-tension power towers for
cell site antenna placement.
? Built and implemented 5 cell sites within a 9 month time frame,
thereby retaining the license for the areas.
? Considered an Expert Engineer at City and County zoning hearings
throughout the Bay Area, with a "No denial" track record.
? Achieved a GTE first by designing antennas inside columns of a church
tower.
? Pioneered the use of three-in-one antennas resulting in quick design
approvals by local jurisdictions.
? Integrated an after-market class A linear power amplifier design
significantly improving performance and reducing costs.
? Played a key role as a committee member developing Tower ordinances
for the City of San Jose, expediting placement within the City by 30%.
