EXPERIENCE
North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND 2008
– Present
Research Scientist
Building on extensive laboratory experience, define project focus for small molecule inhibitors,
solid phase/ solution phase peptide synthesis and lipid synthesis, design experimental approaches,
utilize different research techniques, and analyze/interpret data for presentation and/or publication.
Train and mentor graduate/undergraduate students in the techniques and good laboratory practices
for conducting organic synthesis as well as do solve their synthetic problems. Write proposals for
research funding.
Authored 9 papers (published in chemistry/med chem. Journals like ACS Nano, Analytical
•
Chemistry, BMCL etc), two books chapters, and filed one US patent.
Synthesis of small molecule inhibitor for HDACs, MMP and novel activator for sirtuins.
•
Synthesized lipids and monomer/polymer to facilitate isozyme detection of CA and MMP.
•
Demonstrated successful cancer sub typing employing specially designed and synthesized small
•
library of water soluble fluorescent polymers.
North Dakota State University 2004-2008
Post Doctoral Research Associate
Combined research expertise and deep knowledge of organic chemistry to design and synthesize
small molecule inhibitors of metallo enzymes such as methionine aminopeptidase-1, MMPs and
carbonic anhydrases. Also designed and synthesized different lipids for protein detection.
• Published 13 papers (which include JACS - 4, Chem. Comm. – 4) and granted one USA
patent.
• Developed, synthesized and validated the “Two Prong” inhibitor concept for isozyme
selective inhibition of Carbonic anhydrase and MMPs.
• Designed and synthesized new fluorescent probe for carbonic anhydrases.
• Facilitated isozyme recognition of carbonic anhydrase and Matrix metallo proteinase by
liposomes
National Taiwan University- Taipei, Taiwan ROC 2000-2004
Post-doctoral Fellow
Introduced to a entirely different field of chemistry from small molecule synthesis to fullerene chemistry and
material science- picked up fast and solved two existing problem which my earlier people could not solve.
• Synthesized chiral pyrrolidino- fullerene and established the exact structure by single crystal
X-ray crystallography (granted one USA patent for this).
• Transformed relatively unreactive biopolTM oligomers to reactive oligomers by introducing
different functional group on its chain. (Everything was ready for another patent).
• Synthesized water soluble fullerene derivatives under inert atmosphere and 100% moisture
free condition (kilo level) for PDT application.
Cheminova (I) limited (formerly Lupin Agrochemical) GIDC Panoli – Gujarat, INDIA 1996 - 2000
Executive, Research &Development
• Synergistic effect of subject matter expertise and process research resulted launch and an
increase of yield from 84% to 90% with concomitant reduction of effluent load by 10% for
Quinolphos at plant level.
• Conducted in-depth studies to improve quality/quantity of other products at reduced costs,
while encompassing environmental concerns such as product biodegradability and emissions
reduction.
