Experience
Events and Communications Coordinator 2012 – Present
Currently employed in this position as a civilian with the Department of Defense, Royal Australian Navy. Key duties include; coordinating
Navy aviation and maritime assets to assist the civil community and support public events of significance, managing, publicizing and
implementing strategic events on behalf of the Chief of Navy including official military receptions, decommissioning and commissioning
ceremonies, providing public affairs advice and liaising with media, community organizations and other internal and external government
agencies.
Military Journalist 2010 2012
During this role I was an enlisted Corporal in the Australian Army. I covered numerous Defense related topics and deployed on operations
for the Directorate of Defense Newspapers including Operation Slipper in Tarin Kot and Kandahar, Afghanistan, Operation Queensland
Flood Assist in Australia and Operation Padang Assist in Indonesia. This position also involved reporting on high profile military funerals,
conducting interviews, newsgathering, photography and adhering to tight production deadlines. As a military journalist, I was awarded the
following accolades; 2011 Story of the Year, Australian Active Service Medal – International Coalition Against Terrorism Clasp (AASM
ICAT) (2010), Afghanistan Medal (2010), Australian Defense Medal (ADM) (2010) and Return from Active Service Badge (2010).
Communications and Information Systems Sailor 2007 2010
During this role I was an enlisted Able Seaman in the Royal Australian Navy and served on the amphibious ship HMAS Kanimbla. Key
duties included; reading and transmitting Morse code, hoisting signal flags to communicate with aircraft and ships, transmitting and
receiving encrypted signals via HF, VHF and UHF radio and satellite systems, operating cryptographic devices and reporting priority naval
communications signals to the Commanding Officer.
Public Relations Manager 2005 2007
During this role I worked for PR Gallery, the public relations arm of integrated communications agency GalleryGroup Communications.
Independently, I managed public relations portfolios for numerous property, FMCG and tourism clients including Investa Property Group,
Ingles Property Group, Zarraffa’s Coffee Franchises, Outrigger Hotels and Resorts, Budget Direct Car Insurance, Got 2B Youth Festival
and Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors. Key duties included; client and media liaison, developing and disseminating press
releases and supporting media materials, community engagement, events management, pitching for potential clients and developing long
term strategic public relations strategies.
