• Analyzed order processing, allocation, picking, and the packing system for the jewelry
manufacturer. This analysis was needed to implement an EDI package called Gentran; to accept
purchase orders (850), purchase order acknowledgements (997), purchase order change requests
(860), invoices (810), and advance ship notices (856). In order to complete ship notice manifest
specifications the system needed to create consolidated shipments for individual stores or to a
distribution center. When the system completed the packing process of shipments and
determined that this was an EDI process, it would generate advance ship notices data linked to
Gentran; which would then be sent electronically to the customer’s computer. The process
speeded up the receiving and shipping process at the distribution center. The system also kept
track of manifest data, which could later be used to track lost or late shipments. Implemented on
AS/400 Model 60.
