CURRENT PROFILE: PALLIATIVE REHABILITATION MANAGER

RESPONSIBLE TO: CEO & CLINICAL DIRECTOR

BASED AT: ASSISI HOSPICE, SINGAPORE

JOB SUMMARY

• Lead service development for the team and support the direction of the hospice to

achieve its aims in Rehabilitation of patients.

• Ensure the Therapy team delivers effective treatment by providing excellent clinical and

managerial leadership.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible to undertake a specialist clinical work load, using clinical reasoning skills

to utilise a range of advanced treatment skills and options of care.

• Provide physiotherapy to patients in a designated geographical area and managers

duties across the hospice sites.

• Identify patients’ goals that are appropriate to their needs and wishes and compare with

current practices which are evidence based.

• Work with the multi-disciplinary team and other healthcare professionals to manage

patient care which is responsive to patient choice and need.

• Educate carers in the correct physical management of the patient.

• Provide instruction to other physiotherapists and students on assessment approaches

and conclusions, using highly developed clinical and managerial expertise. Provided

both proactively and on request.

• Communicate information in a manner that is consistent with the level of culture,

background, understanding using clients preferred method and monitor effective

communication throughout.

• Liaise with GPs, consultants and other relevant professionals.

• Be proactive in assessment, referrals, admission and discharge planning of day care

patients.

• Maintain safely the equipment within the day care Hospice, removing and reporting any

that is defective.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitor the work and standards of the Therapy team. Establish and maintain

communication with the Therapy and wider team around both clinical care and service

provision, including team meetings and one to one supervision meetings. Improving

quality of care and service

• Develop strategies for service improvements

• Undertake human resource activities for all members of the team

• To maintain up to date and comprehensive treatment records and ensure the team is

also making records which are timely, accurate and appropriate.

• Budget holder for the Therapy team.

• Responsible for staffing, recruitment, education, annual leave, sickness monitoring,

discipline and lieu time.

• Responsible for stock control of medical and surgical items or equipment required for

treatment, ensuring that orders are placed with the purchasing service in a timely

manner.

• To collect and provide statistical information as required by the Hospice and ensure the

team are doing so too.

• Supervision of nurses to provide quality nursing care.

• To prioritise the workload to meet the changing needs of the service and allow time for

administration and delegate as appropriate

• To attend relevant meetings, providing effective communication to ensure continuity of

patient care. Represent the team as necessary.

• To participate in the development of clinical standards and clinical audit, working within

the Clinical Governance framework at the Hospice.

PERSONNEL RESPONSIBILTIES

• Recognise indications of staff stress and to facilitate staff support.

• undertake staff performance reviews

• Supervise and participate in the induction of new staff.

• Take on a mentor role to new staff, as required.

• support the promotion of hospice services

• Participate in professional placements and lay person visits to the Hospice.

• Recognise the value of volunteer contribution and play an active part in their support

and development where appropriate.

EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Identify educational needs of the team

• Ensure that service developments are evidence based and supported by research

activity

• Participate in education programmes as required. Share knowledge and expertise with

others

• Be involved in the hospice governance process, identifying areas with room to improve,

auditing, evaluations and implementation

• Ensure that feedback form educational programmes attended by the team are made

available to all colleagues.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

• Devise with the Director of patient Services a personal development plan in line with the

Hospice objectives and personal needs.

• Maintain and increase personal clinical and managerial skills.

ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work at all times within the policies and guidelines of the Hospice and act within

professional guidelines and the Health and Social Care Act, at all times.

• Ensure effective use of resources.

• Play an active part in the development and maintenance of good relationships with all

who have business with the Hospice.

• Respect at all times the confidentiality of information covering patients, staff and

volunteers.

• Promote the Hospice philosophy of care towards patients, relatives and visitors.

Academic Credentials:

• Master of Physiotherapy in orthopedics from Institute of

Applied Medicines And Research, India.

• Bachelors Degree in Physiotherapy from KASTURBA

MEDICAL COLLEGE, Under Manipal University Karnataka- India

in the year 1997.

• One Year Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital Administration

from Apollo Group of Hospitals in 2005.
