Supply Chain Manager – Koch Heat Transfer Canada LP
Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the President, I was responsible for the Purchasing of all contract related materials,
the majority of which are metal components. Many of these items are custom products i.e. pressure
tubes, forgings, tank heads, special plate materials, fasteners, gaskets, nozzles, expansion joints, special
job related items.
Purchasing of all sub-contract services. These services included blast/paint of finished product, heat
treatment, bolt tensioning, heat tracing and insulation. Also responsible for sub-contract related
requirements required for operations, eg. Service/maintenance providers for overhead cranes, lift
trucks, HVAC, etc. Approx. total spend ranged between 5-20 million dollars.
Purchasing of all maintenance, repair and operating supplies. Purchasing of office supplies.
Administration of Supply Chain department (2-5 reports) including buyers, shipper/receivers.
Administration of raw material inventories.
Responsibility for all incoming and outgoing shipping i.e. raw materials an d finished product.
Provision of metrics reports re: actual vs. estimated costs and supplier performance.
I was the Supply Chain Manager for two plants for several years, one in Toronto and the other in Sarnia,
Ontario.
Accomplishments:
Consistently brought material/sub-contract spends within or under budget.
Consistently provided operations with the materials and services required when required.
For approximately six years I was entrusted with setting up the company Environmental Compliance
program. (2003-2009).
Part of implementation team re: new ERP system (INFOR) in 2009.
May 1994-Mar. 1998
Sales Manager – H.J. Skelton Ltd.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for total sales performance for raw materials segment. Products included custom forgings,
metals bars, structurals, tank heads, special plate products, etc.
Duties included everything from securing enquiries thru delivery to customer.
Accomplishments:
Executed customer orders such that all necessary parameters were met i.e. delivery, quality and
customer service were met and profit margin was maintained.
1985 – May 1994
Materials Manager – Koch Engineering Company, Ltd.
Responsibilities and accomplishments were essentially identical to my second tenure at Koch Heat
Transfer Canada LP save the outgoing shipping was not in my areas of responsibility. During a number
of years during this tenure, we had a secondary product line that increased the number of my direct
reports to approx. 6-7 employees.
1974 – April 1985
Assistant Purchasing Manager – Brown Boveri Howden Ltd.
Responsibilities –
Reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager, responsible for department execution for all contract
material purchases save those over $1 million. This included metal plate, finished parts, fasteners, bars
and structurals, forgings and castings.
Also responsible for securing sub-contract machining services.
Primary responsibility for raw material inventory.
I had approx. 10 indirect reports.
Accomplishments:
I progressed from starting out as an Expeditor, thru Buyer, Senior Buyer and ultimately Assistant
Purchasing Manager. I received performance raises throughout this tenure.
1970-1974
During this time period I had jobs as a Shipping Clerk at Upjohn Pharmaceuticals and finally as a
Scheduler at Corning Glass.
Education:
High School (Grade 13) 1968
C.P.P. (Certified Professional Purchaser), - 1990, now re-named Supply Chain Management Professional.
This is the highest designation available to Purchasing professionals in Canada. This took many years of
night school to attain. This program was composed of 5 principals courses, 12 PMAC (Purchasing
Management of Canada) seminars, 6 Management courses (see below, CIM), experience criteria, a one
week live-in course at the University of Western Ontario, a written case study essay and finally an in -
person interview with the Board of Examiners based on the case study essay. I was successful enough in
this interview that I was approached by the Board of Examiners to undergo the same interview in the
presence of approx. 30 interviewer trainees as an example. I agreed to this in 1991.
C.I.M. (Certified in Management ) 1989 – sponsored by the Canadian Institute of Management.
This was a four year course that was used to satisfy the Management course requirements for the C.P.P.
designation. Topics included Operations Management, Management Accounting and Management
Statistics.

Other - 1995 Participated in a social program in London, Ontario called Friendship in Action. This
entailed partnering with a single senior citizen and providing that person with comradeship and
logistical support in providing transportation to lifestyle necessary services, eg. Banks, grocery stores,
etc.
