PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

VIRENT INC., Madison, WI 2009 to 2012

Virent is a biofuels research facility that features catalytic chemistry

which converts plant-based sugars into a full range of hydrocarbon

products.

Facility Manager

Directed all departmental activities and personnel, researched and

prepared scopes of work for building modifications, utility upgrades and

equipment installations to support site operations. Responsibilities

also included; capital appropriation requests, cost estimates, setting

up systems to ensure budget cost control, project engineering

completeness, qualifying and providing contractor site orientation and

management to ensure project specifications, site safety and regulatory

requirement compliance (OSHA, IBC, IFC, NFPA, etc.).

. Prepared drawings, specifications, bid package and managed the

construction of an executive office complex with board room. Project

cost $300K. Project completed on time and on budget.

. Prepared specifications and bid package for two lab makeup air HVAC

units with glycol heat recovery to efficiently maintain the lab

temperatures and negative pressures. Project cost $760K. Equipment

was ordered and installation was scheduled.

. Prepared specifications and bid package for a 15 ton chiller. Project

cost $200K. Equipment was ordered and installation was scheduled.

. Developed and implemented process flow specifications to streamline

building, modifying and maintaining pilot plants for bio fuel

research. Reduced average plant build time from 8 weeks to 6 weeks

per unit and substantially improved reliability.

. Developed and implemented site security plan as well as a number of

safety programs. All programs are now company policy.

. Participated and provided information on equipment limitation,

preventative maintenance and safety requirements for site PHA's to

insure regulatory compliance, successful startup and reliable

operation.

through a broad range of thermoset technologies, specialty products and

technical support in a diverse range of applications and industries.

Corporate Senior Process Safety Specialist

Managed and provided Process Safety Management (PSM) / Risk Management

Program (RMP) technical support to eight coating and ink manufacturing

sites. Technical support activities included: guidance to sites on

equipment design codes, standards and practices, mechanical integrity

(MI), process safety information (PSI), management of change (MOC) and

other PSM related initiatives. Ongoing activities included: PSM program

audits, process hazard analysis (PHA) reviews with recommendations to

achieve and maintain regulatory compliance on new, modified and existing

equipment. Collaborated with site leadership teams to insure that PSM

/RMP activities were initiated, documented and complied with to meet

regulatory standards. Provided ongoing engineering support as required

for startups and testing.

. Developed, submitted and managed PSM / RMP budgets for eight

divisional sites.

. Developed PSM compliant safety guidelines and program for contractors

working at divisional sites. Program was adopted by corporate for use

at all Hexion sites.

. Developed divisional mechanical integrity guidelines and programs for

inspection and testing of above ground storage tanks, pressure vessels

and covered process piping systems.

. Completed Electrical Area Classification study (flammable liquids and

combustible dust) at several divisional sites, providing the sites

with detailed documentation and classified area site maps.

. Chaired monthly meetings with divisional PSM / RMP site leaders to

discuss and assist sites with program improvements.

. Assisted divisional teams implement PSI / MI gap analysis protocols

with focus on 100% regulatory compliance at each divisional site

within four years.

. Collaborated with European and South American sites to resolve process

safety issues.

Plant Engineer 2000 to 2007

Scope of responsibilities included managing plant engineering activities

and personnel. Directed projects from concept to completion, with

responsibilities for planning annual facility budget, managing all site

utilities, capital project appropriation requests, project cost

estimating and cost control, project engineering, planning and

coordination, contract management, production coordination,

fabrication/installation management and startup, new equipment operating

procedures and preventative/predictive maintenance routines. Directed

maintenance activities and provided technical support as required.

Developed and implemented Pleasant Prairie's mechanical integrity

program.

. Managed and coordinated building construction and commissioning of a

rosin and flammable liquids railcar and tank wagon unloading building

in addition to engineering, fabricating, installing and commissioning

peripheral processing equipment. Project cost $2MM. Project completed

on time and under budget.

. Prepared specifications, engineered and coordinated the installation

and commissioning of a 3,500 GPM cooling tower. Project cost $350K.

Project completed on time and under budget.

. Assembled specifications, engineered, coordinated the fabrication,

installation and commissioning of a molten resin cooling, flaking and

bagging process that doubled processing throughput, reduced out of

spec product by 40% and improved product quality. Project cost $675K.

. Generated drawings, specifications and coordinated remodeling of a

7,000 sq. ft. corporate office area with a 7 week project completion

window. Made temporary provisions for displaced office personnel

throughout the remodeling phases. Project cost $147K. Project

completed on time and under budget.

WI 1994 to 2000

General Chemical manufactures a broad line of organic and inorganic

chemicals for a wide variety of industries and applications.

Environmental, Health and Safety Manager

Responsible for coordinating and implementing environmental,

health/safety and DOT compliance programs, policies, reporting, and

budgeting. Provided environmental, safety and training support to field

service personnel and customers. Managed workman's compensation and

medical management programs for the site. Participated in EHS audits at

corporate sites in North America and Canada.

. Reduced recordable injuries by 78%, restricted duty days by 53%, and

achieved zero lost work days in 1999 through employee driven safety

programs, performance based employee safety workshops and work station

job hazard analysis.
