Field and Plant Operator

Operate and maintain Camrick Gas Processing Plant and Field. Obtain and maintain right of ways and field stations. Install meter stations and meter runs, calibrate and witness meter calibrations, install pipelines, locate pipelines, cathodic protection, coordinate and arrange condensate transfers, run pigs, gauge tanks, load trucks, and other duties required to keep the operation safe. Maintain plant and field meters, change orifice plates as needed, document all changes and update computer applications as requested or required. Install equipment as required to insure accurate accounting principles.

Operate a cryogenic natural gas processing plant including all phases of operations utilizing a turbo expander and other plant processes to dry, compress, cool and separate the components of natural gas.

Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and perform minor overhauls such as pistons, rings, valves, catalytic converters, exhaust manifolds, magnetos, turbo chargers, safety devices, panel alarm repairs and controls and other maintenance items as required on plant and field equipment including engines, pumps, compressors, generators, plant and instrument air compressors and dryers, pipelines, plant water supply, plant process controls, safety relief valves, and maintain call out system.

Establish accounts with vendors, work with plant personnel and contractors including welders, mechanics, pipefitters, roustabouts, and others. Issue hazardous work permits and coordinate contractor’s efforts to insure a safely completed job. Work with state auditors to insure plant compliance issues and emissions controls.

Complete maintenance activities and requirements during scheduled turnarounds and normal preventative maintenance. Repair all plant equipment as required.

Order and maintain appropriate inventories of filters, valves, gaskets, meter parts, engine parts, compressor parts and other plant and field items.

Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports, schedules, logs, and other necessary paperwork and data as required and or requested. Maintain, install and upgrade plant computer and applications as needed or requested by the operations manager.

On call out for plant and field.

system, sterilizer system, heat exchangers and other equipment.

1979 – 1994 Phillips Petroleum / Praxair Richfield KS / Ulysses KS

Phillips Petroleum E&P division owned and operated the Greenwood

Helium Plant. This plant was an NGL (natural gas liquids) plant.

The NGL was piped to the Borger refinery. We also separated the

helium and nitrogen from the raw natural gas stream through cryogenic

processes (low and high purity cold boxes) and liquefied the helium and

nitrogen. The liquid nitrogen was used to facilitate the liquefaction

process of the helium. The liquid helium (-452 deg. Fahrenheit) was

transported to customers in special containers by truck. The plant was

totally self-reliant, having its own water well, boilers, and natural

gas driven power generators. The only input was raw natural gas.

The plant was sold and resold ending with Union Carbide acquiring the

plant. Meanwhile, Union Carbide reorganized creating two separate

entities, one being Praxair. Praxair continued operating the plant for

several months, while building their new helium plant at their current

location in Ulysses Kansas. The Richfield plant (built in 1965)

was mothballed. The Ulysses plant which I was a part of the start-up

was built in 1986 – 87. We went online successfully in 1987 (60 days

ahead of the scheduled start-up)

Instrumentman “A”

Started this job at Greenwood as Utilityman “B” working on natural gas

driven engines (Ingersoll-Rand, Cooper, and White), compressors, rebuilding

compressor valves, plumbing, and general maintenance. Successfully bid on an

Instrumentman “B” job. Completed a two year (in 18 months) on the job training

course and was awarded the Instrument man “A” job. The plant operated with only

one Instrument man in the department. I held this job for six years, until the plant

closed in 1987.
