RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Doctoral Research: Colorado School of Mines, Laboratory for Applied and Envt. Radiochemistry

The Role of Natural Organic Acids in the Transport of Uranium and Plutonium Through Saturated Porous Media:

Bench-Scale Experiments and Modeling

Developed an experimental method to radiolabel fulvic acid (an organic matter fraction) with tritium to improve its

analytical detection limits.

Gained significant lab skills to investigate the effects of various natural organic matter fractions on metal sorption and

transport behavior in batch adsorption, and column transport experiments.

Modeled the effects of the distribution of subsurface heterogeneities on metal transport behavior on different scales.

Sponsors: Austrian Academy of Sciences, U.S. National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Energy

Master Thesis Research: CSM, Coors Brewing Company, University of Leoben

Polymer Additives in Wastewater Treatment Processes: Characterization and Optimization

Developed the concept of a flocculant dosage control system for the optimization of the wastewater treatment process

of Coors Brewing Company concerning its flocculant dosage and toxicity of the final effluent.

Characterized wastewater samples, tested several experimental methods to quantify residual flocculant concentrations

in wastewater and optimized a colloid titration method for detecting residual flocculant concentrations in wastewater.

Performed Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) tests to determine maximum allowable flocculant concentrations.
