PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING
My goals of teaching are to provide a positive influence for adolescents challenging them academically, meeting their needs as well as fulfilling the curriculum standards in a safe, creative and productive learning environment that will help them reach their full potential.
To achieve this goal I strive to create a cooperative learning environment in which students of differing developmental levels will learn and progress. In the classroom setting risk-taking and the broadening of their expectations will be encouraged. Moreover, through the opening of their minds they will realize that the wealth of knowledge which they can construct not only exists in the textbooks and classroom but also in the world that surrounds them.
I feel that my responsibility as a facilitator is to provide a secure, social and emotional environment addressing strengths and needs in which I can nurture these creative minds and assist them in the expression of their ideas and opinions about concepts and occurrences in the world that surrounds us all.
In my varied experiences I have recognized how important it is to develop various methods of assessment and evaluation of which I must be aware and constantly utilize in order to meet the literacy needs of individual students of varying capabilities on a consistent basis.
I also recognize the importance of making not only academic evaluations but also the necessity to be able to interpret the social behavior of students in order to develop technique strategies that will improve my instructional process and better meet their needs.
To meet my students ever-expanding needs I realize that I must attend professional workshops which will assist me in addressing their social and educational needs more effectively.
Moreover, the knowledge and insights gained from courses and workshops will enhance the contribution that I can make in professional deliberations with my faculty colleagues.
