Author of The Gospel Of Jesus on-line e-Book
PERSONAL BACKGROUND; www.oocities.com/sonriseministry/personal I was born and raised in Alton, Illinois, a neighboring community to St. Louis, Missouri, located across the Mississippi river about 30 miles to the Northeast. I am 62, and married to my lovely and beautiful wife, Annette. She was raised on a farm in West-Central Missouri. Annette has given me six wonderful children, five sons and a daughter. They are all grown and on their own. Our four oldest sons are married and two of them have two children each and a third has 1 child and another on the way, all are ages 6 through 1 yr. Our daughter is recently married and working as a sound technician. All of our children have received Jesus as their Savior and Lord, for which I am grateful to God. They are a source of joy to my soul and my spirit and I have learned much about relating to people through getting to know them as they grew and matured into young adults.
My educational background consists of having received a Bachelors Degree in Engineering and a Masters Degree in Management, both from the University of Missouri at Rolla. Professionally I have worked over 30 years as an engineer in industry and business for many companies including IBM, Hallmark Cards, Ball Aerospace Systems, Commercial Construction, and the Department of the Army, Aviation Systems Command. I have seen the commercial and business world from many vantage points. Currently, I substitute teach full or part time in all subjects at 3 different public middle and high schools.
My desire is to share this knowledge and experience with the young people and to encourage them to develop themselves to their fullest potential during their formative years. This is so they may have maximum opportunity to compete in this world and to make a difference in their lives and in the lives of others as adults and as moms and dads themselves.
I am pleased to tell all of my students that the God that I serve, the Lord Jesus Christ, is indeed both alive and that He is indeed a good God. He is also a wonderful Father, and I am learning how to love Him with all of my heart. Now, I know that He not only loves me, but He loves each one of them also and that I look forward to His soon coming again.
PERSONAL TESTAMONY; www.oocities.com/sonriseministry/testamony I first met this living God one clear evening in February of 1974. I just looked up into the clear sky filled with stars and I said these words . Father in heaven, I know you are there and that you can hear me. I am sorry for trying to run my life apart from you all these years. God, you say in your word, the Bible, that Jesus died for my sin. I have always believed that Your Son Jesus died for the sins of mankind, and I guess I sort of included myself as being a member of that group. The trouble is, God, I never realized that Jesus had died for me personally, for my own sin. Well God, I accept His death for me, right here and now, and I thank you and Him for that. God I want to live for you. It is your turn to run my life. I invite you to come into my heart, my body and my mind, to live within me. I want every breath I take, from now on, to be that I may serve you. This I know now, my life began to change from that moment on.
God, through His Holy Spirit, has taught me some important things about Him and His nature, about myself, and about others. God began to show me, through others, especially my pastor, that there were some things about my nature and my character that simply needed to change. God told me through His word the Bible that He disciplines those whom He loves. He said in His Word if I would accept His discipline, good things would result; that I would begin to be like Him in my character and I would begin to share in His holiness. This indeed He has done.
God has also shown me is that He wants me to love His other sons and daughters also, because we truly are a family, His family. Learning to love His way begins by learning to love His only begotten Son, Jesus, to whom He has given all power and authority. Through Jesus and His Words, God told me to learn to love the rest of His family, beginning with my wife and children. I did not really know what God meant by the term Love . So it was back to God s Word, and to read for myself the words of His Son Jesus about what God s love is and how to love others, beginning with my wife. I have learned that love is not a feeling or a need or even a thing. Love is an act of the will of the individual who is giving it. Love is giving to others so they may do better, even at the cost of your own life and plans. It is as Jesus said, No greater love has anyone that he who will lay down his life for a friend . You are my friend, and I lay my life down for you. I am learning to love Jesus and His church and even to love myself.
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESS; My strengths are in my education, experience, and gifts as listed above and in the attached resume and letters of recommendation. My weaknesses are many but God uses them also. I have served as an elder in the start of a new church, I have preached the Sunday morning service at the Madison county Jail and or at the Illinois State Youth Detention Center, once a month for eight years. I have also discipled many Christians.
EXPECTATIONS OF THE CHURCH BODY; I expect to see the church body become as stated in Ephesians 4:12-16, equipped for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to the mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming, but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by that which every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love (New American Standard Version).
SHORT TERM GOALS; To preach the gospel to those whom God allows me to do so.
LONG TERM GOALS; to disciple those whom desire to follow the Lord Jesus in their own life.
STRESS LEVEL; I can endure more than I would otherwise be able to in my own strength, by the grace of God through His Holy Spirit in me. I try to always let the peace of God richly dwell within me and then allow the joy of the Lord to be my strength. I truly believe that I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me, it may just take me a bit longer than others. I have been tested in this area of my life professionally, personally and spiritually.
EVENTS; I like to have fun and to meet and visit with people, the more the better.CHURCH BUILDING; I am trained professionally as a project engineer. I have understanding about building projects, their funding, contracting and execution. I believe church buildings are to keep the rain and snow off of God s people when they are assembled to worship the Lord and conduct other activities. The church building should be adequate and in good repair, but God does not dwell in buildings built by men, but the temple of God is in the body of each and every true believer in Jesus Christ as written in 1 Cor 3:16.
YOUTH MINISTRIES, I support the opportunity for youth to have occasion to gather together in play, fellowship and in worship. I believe the teaching and training of the youth in the way they should go in life is the responsibility of the parents. I support and encourage all family oriented activities that help parents in accomplishing this important responsibility. I believe in the father being the head of the household and in managing his household well, not lording it over those in his charge, but in the training, discipline and authority that goes with the responsibility of being a father as in Eph 5:23, 6:1-4, 1Tim 3:4 & 5, & Matt 24:45-51. Having raised six children of my own and having been a substitute and full time teacher to jr. and sr. high school kids for nearly five years, I have a sincere love and appreciation for our youth. I support education of young people whether it is by public school, private school or home school. I also support and encourage participation in extra-curricular activities and activities apart from school.
OTHER TOPICS, I fully support rule of the local church by local elders as God tells us through Paul in his writings and not by a single Pastor. I also believe in the responsibility of the elders to be able to teach and to perform the duties of a shepherd over the flock of God to whom they have been given charge, for they will give account to God for how they watch over them and feed them both spiritually and materially as told in 1Thess 5:12-15, Heb 13:7 &13, 1Tim 5:17 & 18.
Over the 30 years of my Christian walk, I have seen and come to know a lot about the church
of Jesus Christ today in many different denominational traditions and in a verity of worship
and organizational settings. I appreciate the heritage and traditions the local church brings to the body of Christ. It was a local Presbyterian church that played a roll in my own personal development as a child. Later it was a local Methodist church that helped me in raising up my own family. I thank God for ministry and fellowship that comes through the local church.
I also see some shortcomings in the local church. One of these is in the ineffectiveness of reaching out to the lost in the local community. I also believe there can be a tendency among church members to want to nominate a Pastor to be a sort of Moses to the people in that his roll is expected to be one of You talk to God and take care of things having to do with God and we will talk to you and take care of things having to do with you and us. This thinking can result in a tendency among church members to want to surround themselves with teachers who will tickle their ears with teaching only about that which they are comfortable with. The problem with doing this is they become a people who cling to a form of religion but deny the power of religion in their own lives. This happens because the people are not willing or able to endure teaching about sound doctrine as told in 2 Tim 4:1-4.
It is the responsibility of a Minister of Jesus Christ to speak the whole truth, in love, to the elders and to people of God and not to shrink back, else their blood will be upon his head, as Paul tells us in Acts 20:17-35. However it is also the responsibility of the Minister of Jesus to recognize where the people of God are in their spiritual maturity and, if necessary, to begin by purposing to know nothing but Jesus Christ and Him crucified, as Paul tells us in 1 Cor 2:1 & 2. Then as in 1 Tim 3:2 & 4:17, the elders of the local church should be equipped to teach those in their charge, the basic oracles of God, as they are listed in Hebrews 6: 1 & 2. This is the milk of the word of God. However we are not to be satisfied with living only on the milk of the word. We must soon leave the elementary teachings about the Christ and press on toward spiritual maturity. We must grow by becoming familiar with the solid food of the word, which is the teaching about the word of righteousness as said in Hebrews 5:13 & 14. Our senses must be trained to discern good and evil through much practice and feed back from those who have charge over us in the Lord Jesus. This is what discipling the nations is about. And this we should do, according to Hebrews 6:1- 3, if God permits.
I have created a web site for the Son-Rise Ministry, an organization which I founded. In the On-line Seminar of the web site are some important questions I believe should be answered by every person. The URL address is:
God s Calling and Choosing me to be a minister in His service:
. God has called me according to 2 Pet 1:10,
Therefore brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you
. Jesus has chosen me and prepared me according to Eph 4:7-13 & Rom 10:12-15
But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ s gift. And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some a evangelists, and some as pastors (shepherds) and teachers, for the equipping of the saints (true believers) for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.
. Jesus has prepared me according to Eph4:-14-16
As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by that which every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
. Jesus has sent me out according to Romans 10:12-15
For the Scripture says, Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed for there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all abounding in riches for all who call upon Him; for Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. How shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who bring glad tiding of good things!
. The Holy Spirit bares witness to my spirit of this according to 1John 5:7-9.
And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that bear witness, the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for the witness of God is this, that He has borne witness concerning his Son. The one who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
. The gifts and calling of God are without repentance (irrevocable) (Rom 11:29)
for the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable
