Background
Over 40 years of combined construction and insurance industry experience. Apprenticeship
with a aster carpenter at Long Beach City College. Obtained a California (B) General
Building Contractors' License (1976) and subsequent (C-10) General Electrical, (C-13)
Fencing, (C-15) Flooring, (C-35) Lathing & Plastering, (C-39) Roofing, and (C-54) Tile
(Ceramic, Mosaic & Stone) licenses as well as general contractor licenses in Arizona.
Hands on experience in all phases and trades of construction both residential and
commercial, including: sitework, concrete, masonry, framing, waterproofing, insulation,
roofing, flashing and sheet metal, doors & windows, flooring (all types), lath & plaster,
gypsum board (drywall), acoustic treatment, painting, ceramic tile, mechanical,
electrical, steel, fencing, furniture fixtures and equipment. Construction management
experience: supervision, project management, and estimating. Remodel and restoration of
medical facilities, restaurants, military facilities, high rise interior and exterior,
major department store remodeling, industrial retrofitting, retail and commercial tenant

Vardi, Inc., a private consulting firm specializing in evaluation of construction related
product and property damage causation and determination of scope including: construction
defect, water intrusion, mold, negligence, subrogation and liability, reconstruction and
replacement cost, construction documentation, code and safety requirements, performance
and completion responsibility, real estate disclosure requirements, general contractor and
subcontractor responsibility, normal and customary industry standards and practices.

Investigate, consult and report on a variety of personal injury claims including:
Construction site accidents, OSHA violations/compliance. Cases include use of power tools,
scaffolding, ladders, skylights, open trenches, glass or other material installation,
heavy equipment including cranes and lifts, construction vehicles, and general
construction operations. Slip, trip and falls and ADA (American with Disability Act)
violations/compliance, floor safety, lighting issues, industry standard violations,
premises liability, care and maintenance, and injury prevention. Claim experience

hotels, office & medical buildings, roofs, public throughways, restaurants, food and

Residential Construction:
Inspection and damage assessment of: Over 300 residential units after the 1994 Northridge
earthquake. Over 3000 single family units involved in a variety of construction defect
cases. Over 200 single family units involved in non-litigation including custom home
construction and special projects such as complex roof installation and major stucco and
sheet metal repairs as well as first party property claims.
Commercial Construction:
Post 1994 Northridge earthquake inspection and damage assessment of multi-unit, multi-
story, dwelling complexes and commercial structures. Post severe hail and wind damage
inspection and assessment of large apartments complexes in Arizona and Colorado. Consult
on scores of multi-unit, multi-story, dwelling complexes involved in construction defect
cases and reconstruction. Feasibility study for relocating and reconstruction of the
Horton Grand Hotel. Damage assessment, determination of cost of repair and consulting for
commercial structures such as: UCLA chemistry building, multi-story office building in
downtown Los Angeles, 99c Super Store, El Encanto Hotel, mini-marts, warehouses, auto
repair facilities, auto dealership, Red Line MTA subway tunnel, and a variety of other
commercial buildings. Special projects consultant on a multi-story condominium project.
Construction management of retail projects such as Out Takes - Universal CityWalk and
other commercial projects and waterproofing consultants on large repair and reconstruction
projects including 122 unit apartment building and big box electronic equipment retail
store.
Mold, Fungi and VOC Investigation:
Conducted hundreds of cause and origin investigations involving water intrusion where
mold, fungi or other VOC s were suspected. Trained extract bulk samples and to recognize
the potential presence of mold and review laboratory analysis reports.
