Achievements
In high school I took 3 years of child development. We acted as an actual preschool for the children and learned first hand the most beneficial and productive ways to teach a child. We also had experience with children with learning disabilities. Patience, compassion and consistency just came natural to me. I enjoyed working with all of the children and communicating with the parents. Over the years I have many experiences with children of all personalities and it's something I enjoy very much. I also took nursing assistant courses and worked in a retirement community in an advanced Dementia unit. I had a lot of experience with challenging and mentally ill people who I also felt the same compassion for. I'm a hard working and reliable person who absolutely loves the work I do.
Professional Experience
January 2007 to December 2009
Messiah Village Retirement Community Mechanicsburg, PA 17055
Nursing Assistant
During my employment at Messiah Village I absolutely loved the work I did and the feeling of satisfaction I felt helping the Dementia residents and there families. I began as a basic nursing assistant but began taking every class and course that was available to me. I completed many courses and received several certifications. I was CPR/first-aid certified and also was trained to be a med-tech so I not only helped the residents with daily living but also administered medications and treatments. In the 2 years I was there I grew a lot as a caregiver.
January 1998 to November 2007
Self-employed Mechanicsburg, PA 17055
Childcare provider
Immediately after high school I got married and started my family. I also ran an in home daycare/preschool for the majority of the next 9 years. I learned quickly how to establish and enforce rules for behavior. I planned daily activities and age appropriate lessons for the children. I also set aside time for outdoor/indoor playtime. I tried to implement structured days for the children and overall it worked out very well. I was very pleased with the progress the children made over time and it was very gratifying knowing I was making a positive difference in the children's lives. I believe consistency and structure with positive reinforcement goes a long way. After I began work at Messiah Village I decided to take a few years off to help my husband run the home improvement business we own together. I'm now very eager to get back to work doing what I love.
